Welcome Cambodia’s newest species—the royal cave bent-toed gecko! Wild Earth Allies was thrilled to collaborate with the Ministry of Environment, North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences, IUCN, the Royal University of Phnom Penh, and La Sierra University to help describe this gecko, Cyrtodactylus regicavernicolus. This new discovery highlights Cambodia's unique biodiversity and our team’s leadership in the field. Learn more: https://loom.ly/mXMQkKE Photo courtesy of Ministry of Environment, Cambodia

Very clever design idea considering the habitat and characteristics of living organisms inside & near the sea.
Plymouth is now home to a living seawall after organisations across the world united in an attempt to enhance biodiversity along its waterfront. A series of specially-designed concrete panels has been installed on the edge of the Plymouth Sound National Marine Park to make new habitats available to a variety of marine flora and fauna. The panels, developed as a result of extensive scientific research, have been fixed to the seawall close to the Mayflower Steps memorial. Find out more: https://lnkd.in/e3eDurSX

🌊 New Perspectives on the Mediterranean: Recent Results from the BiodivMed Expedition We are thrilled to share encouraging news from the BiodivMed expedition, supported by SPYGEN, revealing that the Mediterranean Sea is in better shape than it was in the 1980s. This discovery is crucial for marine conservation and highlights the effectiveness of the efforts deployed in the region. During this mission, scientists utilized advanced techniques to assess biodiversity and environmental changes affecting this vital basin. The results indicate a notable improvement in certain marine ecosystems, thanks to protective measures and sustainable management of marine resources. This unique and exemplary partnership serving marine biodiversity also involves the Université de Montpellier, ANDROMEDE OCEANOLOGIE, the Vigilife International alliance, and two philanthropic associations from Nice: OceanoScientific and We Are Méditerranée. ➡️ Read the article: https://lnkd.in/dti28JtD Let's continue working together for a sustainable and prosperous future for our Mediterranean! 🌍💧

A creative solution for enhancing biodiversity! Similar to our shipwrecks, this presents the importance of strucutral complexity and vertical relief in the development of habitat spaces and can (should) be applied on a larger scale 👍 #biodiversity #artificialreefs

Program Officer at RPOA-IUU Secretariat funded by USAID | Marine Conservation | Marine Science | Maritime Security
this is a brilliant innovation for biodiversity in the port. Human activities are still able to support biodiversity, even if only on a small scale Remember, the marine food chain comes from small animals. where there are small fish there are big fish.

Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) are a formal designation that recognises biological significance. They are representative of natural heritage, and are a vital part of nature strategy and nature based recovery. There is an assumption that SSSI designated sites will be in good condition and exemplary of specific aspects of nature. However, over the past 10 years SSSI condition has declined with only 38% being in favourable / good condition. There is a need to continue to monitor SSSI condition in the context of their surroundings to understand how their performance can be improved and enhanced. Map Impact's BiodiversityView offers a consistent understanding of habitats and condition and is available throughout England. Check out our explainer video to find out more: https://lnkd.in/eUf3aH5H

We are very proud to partner with the Ocean & Sustainability Foundation at Kering to support the creation of the first international panel on ocean sustainability (IPOS). The aim of the panel is to bring together the various actors involved in ocean sustainability to facilitate a scientific coalition, as well as a new practice and framework for ensuring ocean sustainability. Given that SDG 14 covering the conservation and sustainable use of oceans is one of the least funded SDGs in the 2030 Agenda…and that ocean science is not leading to effective action despite warnings of approaching tipping points…there is an urgent need for the organisation and collaboration between the scientific community, policymakers and other stakeholders in support of sustainable oceans. We are fully behind this critical work and we hope others will support this initiative as well. Look Into My Eyes! Can you spot the difference? A new paper published in the European Journal of Taxonomy describes a new species of crab that occurs in the UK and North East Atlantic. Previously confused in this region with Polybius vernalis, P. dioscurus differs primarily in the features of its orbital and rostral margin. It is these sorts of subtle differences between species that APEM Ltd’s marine scientists examine every day in our marine benthic analysis, supporting marine biodiversity and impact assessments globally, and this discovery has just made our job that little bit more challenging! The paper can be accessed here: https://lnkd.in/eXmRu-WS

Last week on #TaxonomicRecognitionDay, I got invited together with our CEO Heimo Scheuch to discuss #transnationalstrategies and the future of #taxonomicresearch in Austria and Europe at the Director General's Office of the Naturhistorisches Museum Wien. 🐝🌳🗯 At wienerberger we not only implement our #biodiversityprogram with concrete plans, but also continuously assess biodiversity. This taxonomic task requires expertise and guidance, which is provided by our #biodiversityambassadors. 𝗕𝘂𝘁 𝘄𝗵𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴-𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗺 𝘀𝗮𝗳𝗲𝗴𝘂𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗳 #biodiversity 𝘀𝗼 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁? 🐝 Measures to promote biodiversity are crucial to stop the global extinction of species 🍃 Taxonomic research and expertise are necessary to identify and classify species and to take targeted measures to strengthen biodiversity 🌎 The European initiative ‘Biologist in residence’ should increase the attractiveness of the role and bring more biological knowledge into the economy Looking forward to the next steps with Naturhistorisches Museum Wien on leveraging the European initiative TETTRIs and connecting the Social Business Network for more awareness and engagement for this important topic on Austrian and European level. #worldofwienerberger #buildingthefuturetogether
