Brilliant article in The Times today by Matt Dickinson on the proper use of VAR in football, as demonstrated by the light touch approach taken in the Arsenal v Bayern match the other night. As Dickinson correctly identifies, the decision for the Video Assistant Referee, in relation to any given incident, is not whether or not the on field decision was correct but rather whether it was so obviously wrong that VAR ought to intervene (ie some form Wednesbury type test is to be applied). If that approach is adopted, rather than a futile quest for perfection, there will be fewer interruptions, they will be shorter in duration and the game will flow. Of course, whether this would ever stop managers moaning about unfair decisions is a completely different matter!

This past weekend, as I eagerly followed the University of Colorado Boulder Buffaloes take on TCU, the lessons from the field resonated deeply with me, not just as a sports enthusiast but also as a real estate professional.
The electric energy of a game where Deion Sanders' Buffaloes, pegged as nearly three-TD underdogs, stunned everyone with an awe-inspiring win over TCU, echoed a crucial life lesson.
Adversity, my friends, reveals character.
Now, I know many might say, "It's just a game," but when Shedeur Sanders throws a history-making 510 yards, and Dylan Edwards dances on a tightrope to score that sensational touchdown on a 4th and 2 play, it's much more than just a game. It's about shattering preconceptions, breaking records, and turning non-believers into staunch supporters.
The world doubted Deion Sanders' capabilities at the Power Five level. But when the scoreboard read 45-42 in favor of Colorado at the end of those thrilling 60 minutes, it was evident - the mindset of a champion like Sanders doesn’t just elevate personal glories but molds young athletes into individuals of impeccable character.
In our vocations, just as on the football field, we face naysayers, doubters, and obstacles. But let's remember the Buffaloes’ historic feat and think: if they can overcome the odds, so can we.
To all my clients, colleagues, and friends - I genuinely wish for you to outdo me, for in elevating each other, we inch closer to realizing our ultimate #potential.
Here's to converting every setback into a comeback, every adversity into an opportunity. Weak mind, weak body. So let’s toughen up and take on the world, just as the Buffaloes did against TCU. 🌟🏡🏈

Alot of talk on this. Is this offside yes/no? Yes it is offside, the rules of the game are clear on this if you are ahead of the play you are offside, if it's a hand (non-scoring body part) it's onside but it's his foot in the game of football.
An RTE pundit cited its only a small infraction, why have the rules of the game in place at all if people are calling for if it's only a little offside then you're not offside.
VAR has changed the rules to be more detail orientated down to the millimeter's we see in the image.
Offside is offside, simple as.

Whenever you find yourself in a 1v1 situation against a defender, follow this simple 3-step process to beat them:
1️⃣ Scan the space: Don’t focus on the defender but on the surrounding space. Try to find an opening where you want to dribble.
2️⃣Trick the opponent in the opposite direction: Use your soccer moves to make the defender think you are moving in the opposite direction. If you move convincingly, it will throw the defender off-balance.
3️⃣Swiftly move into the clearing: The key here is to have a change of pace. If you don’t move quickly into this newly created space, you will end up having to defeat the same defender again.
The morning after - reflections on the ESNZ Select Committee
Thanks for all the comments and words of support on my appearance before the ESNZ Select Committee yesterday to discuss Locational Marginal Pricing. 😀
But I woke up with a sense of unease. I don't think the panel came across well and I don't think the MPs were at all impressed. It was perhaps summed up by one MP, who waited very patiently until near the end, to say that she was not convinced by any of us. At that point, I was on her side.
In part this goes with the territory. LMP is factious, there is no consensus on whether it is a good idea and very conflicting views on the benefit case that has been presented.
That's part of the reason I said to the committee that I didn’t think it would happen; to make a change of that magnitude - in the middle of a race to net zero and the biggest investment challenge we have faced since the post-war era - would require a cast-iron benefit case and a strong coalition of support. After two years of discussion we are nowhere near that, and the debate has itself deteriorated into a set of counter-points.
That’s why we are pushing for an alternative progressive reform agenda, that can, we believe, deliver the consumer and operational objectives of market reform while accelerating investment and net zero delivery.
I hope that next time I am in front of a group of MPs we can be talking about the positive initiatives that will both deliver net zero and consumer value.
BTW – I was very much helped on the train to the committee reading Gareth Millers blog about market reform and F1 racing. https://lnkd.in/gkrDmAxa Totally agree with him
