Clinical research must be inclusive to improve care for everyone. However, minority and socioeconomically disadvantaged groups are often underrepresented in trials, particularly #cancer #clinicaltrials. A new paper published in JAMA Oncology by Tobias Janowitz, associate professor at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory and adjunct professor at The Feinstein Institutes and Nyasha Chambwe, assistant professor at the Institute of Molecular Medicine at the Feinstein Institutes, looked at the socioeconomic factors, like location and travel time to cancer clinics, that may prevent trial enrollment. The takeaway? By recognizing the barriers patients are facing, health systems can implement solutions to improve #healthequity and care. 📕 Read the new paper here: https://lnkd.in/eq2ZGTTU

📢 Recent findings highlight the vast disparities women face in cancer prevention and care. Dr. Ophira Ginsburg, a senior adviser at the National Cancer Institute Center for Global Health, never anticipated "patriarchy" to play a pivotal role in her cancer research. Yet, she witnessed firsthand the disregard for women's health, the challenges they face due to societal expectations, and the glaring absence of female representation in academic and medical leadership. It's time we address this intersection of women, power, and cancer. 📢 Exciting News: Our Manuscript "Survival Outcomes by Race and Ethnicity in Veterans with Nonmetastatic Castration-Resistant Prostate Cancer" was Published in JAMA Network Open! 📚 In this retrospective, observational cohort study, we explored a critical area of healthcare – the impact of race and ethnicity on clinical outcomes in non-metastatic, castration-resistant prostate cancer (nmCRPC) within the Veterans Health Administration. Key Takeaway: Our findings highlight not only the existence of disparities in outcomes but also the potential for significantly improved outcomes for Black and Hispanic men when treated within an equal-access healthcare system. This research contributes significantly to our understanding of healthcare disparities and underscores the importance of equitable access to healthcare resources. 🌟 I would like to express my gratitude to the incredible team behind this study and our valuable collaborators. Your dedication and expertise made this achievement possible.
