This is one of the ways I fill my 'community bucket' - by volunteering at the Ottawa Community Foundation, on the board, the Grants Committee and the Impact Investing Committee. If you are not familiar - OCF is your community impact broker, helping to bring together so many parts of Ottawa, to pool together our funds and use that to re-invest in our community. We connect people looking for ways to invest their funds for the good of the community (donors), with local nonprofits/charities (service providers) serving those who can really use that investment (community members or causes). And the causes we support are driven by what's needed and what's important to the people who make up our city - so range from social services to health to education to arts and culture to heritage to environment to animal rights. I love volunteering here because it helps me feel connected to the heartbeat of Ottawa across all of our diversity - from grassroots local community groups to donors and funders to business leaders to policy makers. As individuals we are each plugged into to different parts of our city, geographically or sectorally or demographically. But here, we are all united through our common interest in making our city a better place for everyone. So here's a little window into the amazing work that's happening in our city everyday, thanks to all these different folks coming together, each doing our part, to lift each other up. We took notes for you! Our April 30, 2024 meeting, The Pros and Cons of Fundraising Events, ICFAD invited Advancement Officers and their Deans to participate in an online discussion about best practices related to fundraising events – from those with a long history to those being considered. Each participant was invited to facilitate discussion and share their screen with examples as desired. The more of us who participate in this collegial collaboration, the more we are all able to learn from each other! Here are the bullet points that Diane shared: https://lnkd.in/dK8ZBF_F

The power of partnership. At the core are communities that start the conversation and drive the agenda. The private sector can offer jobs, funding, and leadership, the public sector has the infrastructure and policy frameworks, and nonprofits like BakerRipley foster community connections and engagement. This is the framework for building pathways to sustainable solutions that can have an enduring impact on the trajectory of people's lives. #houston #workforcedevelopment #socioeconomicmobility #resilience

Strategist & Leadership Coach | Speaker | I build systems for belonging & inclusion in the workplace so women of color can thrive.
While I sat comfortably at home 82,000 Coloradans lost power due to the weather. Hopefully, this is enough time to complete the application for those who were impacted. Also, this is the number one reason why we shouldn’t wait until the last-minute to turn in an application. Be sure to include systems design in your work 😉. I can help with that. Coaching to manage all the thoughts about time and mindset and other people. Workshops to plan, learn and execute. Group coaching to work with your team.
Due to electricity and internet outages across Colorado, the deadline to apply for a Community Resilience Initiatives grant or a spring 2024 event sponsorship is being extended to 4:59 p.m. MST on Monday, March 18. Learn more at the CRI and event sponsorship pages at www.coloradotrust.org.

“Learn to create a nonprofit organization and society in which Black people can thrive In Building A Pro-Black World: A Guide To Creating True Equity in The Workplace and In Life, a team of dedicated nonprofit leaders delivers a timely roadmap to building pro-Black nonprofit organizations. Refreshingly moving the conversation beyond stale DEI cliches, editors Cyndi Suarez and the NPQ staff have included works from leading racial justice voices that show you how to create an environment—and society—in which Black people can thrive. You’ll also learn how building such a world will benefit all of society, from the most marginalized to the least. The book explains how to shift from simply critiquing white supremacist culture and calling out anti-Blackness to actively designing for pro-Blackness. It offers you: Incisive and engaging work from leading voices in racial justice, Cyndi Suarez, Dax-Devlon Ross, Liz Derias, Kad Smith, and Isabelle Moses Explorations of topics ranging from restorative leadership strategies for staff wellbeing to Black politics and policymaking Discussions of new language for pro-Black social change, racial equity in healthcare and health communications, and antiracist succession planning.”
