While Brussels has a reputation as one of the most diverse cities in the world, diversity is lacking in the Belgian media and communications industry. Enter #WelcomeTalent, a WPP-led campaign that seeks out creative talent in Brussels and reaches people who may not have considered a career in the industry. The programme - which included recruiting Belgian hairdressers as HR ambassadors - welcomed 35 students as part of an early career mentorship programme with WPP, its agencies and its partners. 'DON'T RETIRE - WE NEED THE SENSIBLE, EXPERIENCED PEOPLE TO STICK AROUND!' - I said to Iain Gallagher when he told me he was leaving Santander UK after 30 years (as Senior Manager of Early Talent, for the last eight years). And I meant it - employers of young people have a lot to do, and the challenges look set to keep coming. In a complex and fast-changing landscape, how can organisations continue to attract, recruit and retain the best #EarlyTalent who will become the leaders of tomorrow? What will a change of government mean for employers of #graduates and #apprentices? How will #AI impact how we are hiring in two years' time? What's next for #DEI? And how can we make sure the 'kids' really *are* alright - not just in terms of their mental health, but also their ability to think critically, tolerate diverse opinions, and cope with uncertainty in the workplace? Happily, Iain likes a challenge as much as I do, and he has accepted my invitation to join the Good + Fair Employers Club advisory board, alongside Liz Bingham OBE, Prof Dr Ger Graus OBE and Dr. Iwi Ugiagbe-Green. He's also keen to input topic ideas for G+F sessions, and even run some himself! Iain's expertise in Learning and Development and Talent Acquisition (alongside building and running a range of award-winning Early Talent programmes at Santander) will be a huge asset to the Club. He is already a popular attendee at our events, and we know our G+F members will be glad he's sticking around! Click the link to read us being nice about each other... Welcome to the Club, Iain! * STRUCK BY FOMO? If you're part of the early talent team at a big UK employer, contact me about joining the Good + Fair Employers Club today.(If you're quick, we'll try and squeeze you in at our Summer Leadership Lunch on Wednesday 19 June - see flyer in the comments below. Iain will be there!) * WORK FOR A SMALLER FIRM? Our new Catch-Up Kit could be perfect for you! (More details in the comments below)

I GET IT – BEING A GOOD EMPLOYER OF YOUNG PEOPLE ISN’T EASY, WHATEVER THE SIZE OF YOUR ORGANISATION Which is why the Good + Fair Employers Club now offers *two* services – one for big firms who are leading the way, and one for slightly smaller teams, who are keen to catch up fast! ⭐ OPTION 1: Main Membership Work in an early talent team for a big UK employer that hires young people at scale? Keen to step up as leaders in your field and always know what’s on the horizon, so you’re never caught out? Join early talent professionals from Santander UK, Clifford Chance, GSK, Google, Accenture, Vodafone, Greene King, NHS Graduate Management Training Scheme (GMTS), BT Group, Sanofi and Royal Mail for monthly virtual meet-ups, on a hot topic proposed by our members. Sometimes we invite a guest expert, other times it’s just us. No suppliers making a sales pitch - just 60 minutes of top-quality chat with other brilliant employers. Plus! Twice a year we meet in person, for lunch at a lovely London venue, with facilitated conversations throughout the day. Reports and videos capturing the content from all these discussions are available for members to download on-demand. ⭐ OPTION 2: The Catch-Up Kit *NEW FOR 2024!* Work for a slightly smaller firm that’s committed to rapid improvement on early talent (including DEI) – but not there yet? Created in response to demand, and already proving popular, our new Catch-Up Kit is the fast-track you need. You’ll gain access to all the reports and videos from the discussions we run with our members, who have generously agreed to share them. Why? Because we’ve all decided that - given the challenges facing young people today - these conversations are far too important to be kept behind closed doors. And there is so much that smaller teams can learn from what the bigger ones are up to - yes, even if your budget is a fraction of the size! In addition, I’m on-hand for reassurance and queries whenever you need me, and you'll have access to The Lounge, our members' LinkedIn group. AND ONE LAST THING… A huge *thank you* to all the brilliant, thoughtful, clever early careers professionals working in the UK today. Did you know that, globally, we are leading on most of this stuff? I am so proud to play my part in providing services that allow you to share insights and solve problems together. Onwards and upwards! 😎 🙌 PS. Want to hear more? Drop me a line on here and let's take it from there... #EarlyTalent #DEI #recruitment #graduate #apprentice #leadership

Who are the TOP EMPLOYERS IN MALAYSIA? VOTED BY UNIVERSITY STUDENTS #GCA2024 #GraduateEmployers #Malaysia The Graduates' Choice Award (GCA) continues to uphold its esteemed reputation, unveiling the most coveted employers for 2024. With six years of consecutive success, GCA amassed a remarkable 464,220 votes from university students nationwide, marking a record-breaking level of engagement since its inception. The credibility of the results is reinforced by a rigorous verification process overseen by a Board of Audit Committees comprising 21 professionals from public and private universities. #GCA #GraduateEmployability #EmployerBranding The top 25 companies exemplify excellence in graduate employment, setting a benchmark for others to emulate. GCA serves as a beacon for graduates and job seekers, guiding them in their pursuit of ideal career opportunities. #Talentbank #GraduateEmployment #CareerOpportunities In a fiercely competitive sixth edition, more than 2,500 companies competed across 90 categories. Noteworthy winners include AIA Shared Services, Johnson & Johnson, PETRONAS, Sunway University, Top Glove, and UNIQLO, with UNIQLO securing the prestigious title of 'Champion for Five Consecutive Years.' Head of Emerging Talent at Skanska. Passionate about inspiring and developing the next generation of talent.
I had the pleasure of attending this year's 'What do Graduates want' survey results event, superbly organised and hosted by the fantastic team at #BrightNetwork. All the insights into GenZ's mindsets plus the great student panel discussions were relevant and pivotal in continuing to shape our future talent attraction, recruitment and development solutions. Here are my key takeaways ⬇️ ❤️GenZ want to experience our work culture, not just read about it. 📌 71% have a location preference for their first graduate role. 46% want to work in London. 🌍Black heritage students are using GenAI more than white students. GenAI can be a great tool for neurodiverse students, helping level the playing field when it comes to application processes. ⁉️Companies can be sometimes viewed as 'all about D&I' only to then make the recruitment process fairly inaccessible. It’s also not always immediately obvious what exactly is meant by 'resilience' and 'passion for business.' 🪜Only 15% of those on graduate programmes said they'd definitely stay. Employers should make it clear what progression will look like. 🏢The majority of young people want to work 3 to 5 days from the office/site to learn from others, build professional networks and socialise. They are not expecting to make the rules, however, they strongly prefer jobs that offer some form of flexibility. #ResearchBreakfast2024 #BrightNetworkResearch #emergingtalent
And we're live at launch of our annual ‘What do graduates want?’ research... Incredible to be on stage in front of ~300 early career specialists from our leading employer partners who have all come together at the Pan Pacific Hotel in London today to hear the results of our research on 14,000+ students and graduates. #ResearchBreakfast2024 #EarlyCareers #Skills #GraduateRecruitment #BrightNetworkResearch

One of my favourite panels at the Bisnow conference was the introduction to Sirius Facilities GmbH’s Prisma Programme, where the inimitable Sue Brown of Real Estate Balance introduced us to Kremena Wissel and Jihad Al-Khazali Jihad shared the inspirational story of his non-traditional pathway into the real estate industry. Kremena told us about the Prisma programme run by Sirius, set up to help refugees fleeing conflict to find employment within the real estate industry. Kremena highlighted that a one size fits all approach does not work within the programme, as refugees are (obviously) such a diverse group of individuals. Therefore, the programme provides a range of services from mental health consultation, language support, access to legal guidance, as well as offering 3 months apprenticeship into an area within the business. This ensures that diverse talent makes it to the top of their organisation. Sirius also runs a mentorship programme with leaders from diverse backgrounds where they endeavour to match mentees with a mentor from a similar background – representation matters! Kremena suggested that companies could adjust the way they hire people to widen access to industry by looking at the demographic of advertisement reach and encouraging people to apply by showcasing stories of proven success from within the business. I'll say it again, 💥REPRESENTATION and VISIBILITY MATTERS!!💥 Organisations shouldn’t limit themselves by just looking at education or experience, they should look at the potential and bigger picture of what a person can offer. Look beyond the typical workforce and don’t close doors! Celebrate these differences to create a pipeline of talent. What a brilliant panel session this was, I had goosebumps the entire time – so refreshing to see an organisation with such a bold, yet people-centred approach to recruitment! More of this please, world! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 #dei #recruitment #realestate #womeninrealestate #representationmatters
