How I love it when these memories pop up on my computer. On 4th May 2014, the eyes of the world were on Etihad Airways. The Launch of Etihad Reimagined. What a proud moment it was indeed to be part of this amazing experience and nerve-wracking at the same time having to present and showcase the product to the world press. Teamwork goes a long way. We had about a week to learn the product ourselves 😗 hence the nerves but we had a strategy to tag each other when the mind goes blank 🤣. Journalists are pros at asking questions that makes one go 🤔. My thoughts on how Qatar Airways is preparing for the post-Al Baker era. As a long-time aviation enthusiast, I've been fascinated by Qatar Airways' transformation into a global powerhouse over the past 25+ years under its CEO, Akbar Al Baker. So when news broke of Al Baker's sudden resignation, I began reflecting on what this leadership change could mean for the future of one of the world's premier airlines. In Al Baker, Qatar Airways had a visionary leader who helped establish the tiny Gulf carrier as a respected brand known for innovation and five-star service. But he was also a polarizing figure, never shy about direct confrontations with competitors or political statements. His outspoken advocacy grew Qatar's profile but ruffled feathers at times. Now entering a post-Al Baker era, the appointment of 42-year-old Badr Al Meer signals the passing of the baton to a new generation of Qatari leadership! Younger, and with experience developing the acclaimed Hamad International Airport, Al Meer may bring a fresh collaborative approach. However, it's clear from his background that growing Qatar Airways remains his top priority. I am sure that under Al Meer's guidance, Qatar Airways will maintain momentum by leveraging the existing powerful hub that Doha is right now. Qatar Airways, known for its service excellence, fleet modernization, and strategic partnerships, should not have a problem soaring high with the new CEO, amid challenges like global political tensions and higher costs. Of course, following a legend like Al Baker, who left an indelible mark, won't be easy. But if anyone is prepared to rise to the challenge, it's Al Meer, having trained with Qatar Airways himself. In him, I see aspirations to build new heights for the airline and the country's reputation globally. The leadership transition, in my opinion, leaves Qatar Airways well-positioned for continued success in the skies. I'm excited to observe their journey as they enter this new post-Al Baker chapter.
