Great teamwork drives great results. This weekend saw weeks of planning and hard work bear fruits as our football club, Sandgate FC, held its annual summer 6 a side tournament. Over 300 teams, 5000 players/supporters, 18 hours of football, £27K profit raised for the club, and more importantly 1000s of happy, healthy, active kids from the West London local community leaving with smiles on their faces. Such a great event, and a real buzz for me and my family (even my 78yo dad came down to help!) to be part of team to make this happen. We also celebrated Steve and Lorraine Kennedy, and their family, who have dedicated 33 years of volunteering at the club from coaching, to welfare, to committee they’ve done it all. They’ve give kids a home, given them hope, given them choices and options to a better way of life, often making huge personal sacrifices themselves. They are such a huge inspiration. Much like the Ferguson and Wengers, I doubt we’ll ever see many that can match that sort of service and investment. They’ve been a great support to me personally as I started my coaching career 4 years ago with my son’s team. Wish them all the best with the next adventure. As the club moves to the quieter period of the year over the summer months, we can all reflect positively on a hugely well executed event, with such heartwarming feedback from those that attended.
