Red Seal Journeyman Plumber with pipefitting and water treatment experience. Registered BC pipefitting apprentice.
When people have training in Human Resources but may have limited exposure to the trades: Someone from the LinkedIn world reached out to me about a Journeyman Welding position based on my profile/resume experience. I am a Journeyman plumber with pipefitting experience. Pipefitters work around and with welders but may not be certified to do the actual welding. It is worth talking about because pressure welding has government regulations like weld inspections. Soldered copper joints dont have inspections or the regulations that welds have. But most copper soldering now is just in mechanical rooms and breweries.... Most potable water piping is plastic now until the pipe sizes get bigger. So not a job that I would qualify for.

Turn around season is coming! Start making checks with QC / Owner 1. Maintain welder continuity or plan to have testing done for new welders doing the field welding. 2. Have your piping and equipment repair procedures and the WPS alligned to meet a successful completion. 3. Identify potential what ifs and how they effect the flow. This includes the inspection and subsequent testing go-no gos. 4. Get input from those involved to ensure it can be executed as planned or conceived. Good luck #turnaround2024 #caliperinspection ##gpweldertesting

A welder was tasked to replace a section of hydraulic pipe. The flange bolts were corroded so he used an acetylene torch to cut them off. He did not realize the pipe was under pressure. When he cut off the second bolt, the flanges separated and released pressurized oil to the atmosphere. The torch ignited the highly volatile mixture, and it exploded creating a fireball approximately 23 feet (7 meters) in diameter. The flames enveloped the welder and the oxygen and acetylene bottles nearby. He suffered burns to 40% of his body, which was mostly to his face and body. An investigation determined that at the time of the incident the cylinders were holding a hatch partially open to allow light into the area, which is what created the pressure. However, the job safety breakdown that was developed to prevent further incidents recommended that the hatch must be "fully open or fully closed." As you can see from the hydraulic schematic, the person/s that wrote the JSA evidently didn't understand hydraulics, and inadvertently lit the fuse for a similar incident to occur in the future. There is a pilot-operated check valve in the line that will store pressurized oil in the line when the hatch is fully open. Takeaway: 1. Welders MUST receive hydraulic safety training because they are bound to be asked to weld/cut pipe with a combustible liquid. Heat alone could cause a steel pipe to explode due to thermal expansion. 2. When composing/writing a job safety breakdown related to hydraulics always get input from a hydraulic safety expert.

Sure thing! A description pipe is a symbol (|) often used in programming and command-line interfaces to pass the output of one command as input to another. It helps create a seamless flow of information between different processes. A pipe fitter is a skilled tradesperson who installs, assembles, and maintains piping systems. This includes working with various types of pipes to ensure they fit accurately, connecting them securely, and troubleshooting any issues. Pipe fitters often work in construction, manufacturing, or maintenance settings.
