He said this model of return is more humane and, if adequately supported, sustainable than deportations. Forced returns must stop.

You have to understand that no one puts their children on a boat unless the water is safer than the land 20th of June - World refugee day✊🏿✊🏾✊🏽 By Nyundiwe Kabanda There are over 82.4 million forcibly displaced people globally. 🌍 1 in 95 people world wide are refugees 🗺️ 57% of these refugees come from but are not limited to these three countries -: Syria, Afghanistan and South Sudan. Refugees are often fleeing violence, war or prosecution and seek safety/protection in another country. They have possibly suffered loss, experienced trauma and they often face more challenges rebuilding their lives in a new country. The legal framework for the protection of refugees is defined by the 1951 Refugee Convention and its 1967 protocol. They have specific rights such as : 1. Right to life, liberty and security of person 2. Right to seek asylum and protection from prosecution 3. Right to legal assistance and representation 4. Right to non-refoulement (not to be returned to the country where they face a real risk of prosecution) • Many more…… Organisations such as the United Nations Human Rights Commission, governments and NGOs work to provide them with assistance, protection and durable situations. The more you know 💋 •Justice in Heels•

Statelessness typically leaves people unable to enjoy basic rights that most people take for granted, including the ability to go to school, see a doctor, get a job, open a bank account, vote, get married, and pass on nationality to their children. Desperation can lead to making victims vulnerable to extreme forms of exploitation and abuse. UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency's Global Refugee Forum takes place this week.
