I had someone tell me I was all over the place because I transitioned from Education to Health and from Health to Tech. I did not let their opinion gets to me because they didn’t know my career goals. Yes, you will have people tell you you’re confused because you’re learning too many skills or in training programs. Don’t listen to them❗️Do what you know is best for you. You're the only person who knows your career goals, and your current position in life. Just know that employers will forever continue to make these changes and up the qualifications which likely continue to make you UNQUALIFIED for the roles. You have to adapt and learn to stay competitive in this job market, regardless of others' opinions. It’s time to STAY AHEAD OF THE GAME. 💪🏾 #upskilling #motivation #professionaldevelopment #education #techlayoffs #jobseekers #jobhunters

When I jumped careers in 2021, I lost a lot of my network. I lost a lot of my friends. People let me know they were angry, that I was a failure who just couldn't hack academia. I even had someone I respected tell me that they hoped my new industry, and my career, burned to the ground. I'd be lying if I say I was able to quickly shake it off. I was doing something that was necessary for my growth and survival. Why were people so upset and mean about it? There will always be people who have different views and a different mindset than you, and they make their judgments based off their value system, not considering yours. That doesn't mean you shouldn't do what's right for you. I can say with confidence I have had more opportunities to build and teach in and out of academia since my job switch than I would have in my previous admin position. Since then, 🌟 I've more than doubled my network. 🌟 I've got more supportive friends. 🌟 I'm involved in my community. 🌟 My work-life balance is tilted further toward life. If I hadn't made the leap, I wouldn't have that. Know yourself, talk with people closest to you to help you build a plan, and make the choices that are best for your personal growth. It may be hard at first, but you won't regret it! #personalgrowth #careershift

# Taking a Career Break I've taken two career breaks in my short career of seven years. The first was voluntary, following the failure of my startup. I needed closure and it felt awful to shut it down and move on. Honestly, it took me 1.5 years to get over it. This break lasted for three months, during which I traveled and meditated to overcome my failure. The second break was involuntary, due to bad market conditions. This one was longer and much better—seven months in total. This extended period allowed me to absorb the cycle of ups and downs, experiment with various things, focus on my mental and physical health, and improve my understanding of relationships. If you're considering a career break, make sure that: 1. You can survive financially. I struggled with EMIs, FOMO, and other financial pressures. 2. You have a goal in mind, no matter how small. It can be as simple as focusing on health, upskilling, traveling, improving relationships, learning guitar, swimming, scuba diving, sky diving, or anything else. 3. You make it clear to family and friends that you are not "free" just because you aren't working. You took a break for a purpose, and it's important to dedicate your time to that purpose and inform others as well. Career breaks are important for self-reflection, but it's crucial to utilize them correctly to make the most out of them since you won't get these opportunities often. I recently had the best career break and would be happy to help, discuss, and learn more about career breaks if you're planning to take one, are already on one, or have just come back from one. #careerbreak #layoffs #comeback

Are you someone who believes that work is just a means to an end? Or do you agree with Thomas Edison who said, "I never did a day’s work in my life. It was all fun."? After losing a job, it's natural to start thinking about finding a new one. But, before you jump back into the job market, take a moment to re-evaluate why you work. Consider reading the article "Why We Work" (https://lnkd.in/gxytd_rQ) and answering some important questions to find out what job would be best suited for you. Questions like: What make you cry? What make you laugh? What make your heart sing? What will you do even if you don’t get paid for it? Think about your previous employments and reflect on when you felt happiest and most fulfilled. And, if you knew you wouldn’t fail, what type of job would you pursue? What kind of company would you work for? “The master in the art of living makes little distinction between his work and his play, his labor and his leisure, his mind and his body, his information and his recreation, his love, and his religion. He hardly knows which is which. He simply pursues his vision of excellence at whatever he does, leaving others to decide whether he is working or playing. To him he's always doing both.” – James A. Michener Spend some time to think about why you work so that you can find the job you love and never have to work a day in your life. Be a master in the art of living and leave people guessing whether you are working or playing. #theencourageteam #jobloss #whywework #positivemindset ====== With 200,000+ tech layoffs in 2023 and more being let go in early 2024, it is easy to get discouraged. For 30 days, I will post a tip each day to encourage you and give you some suggestions on how to stay motivated during your job search. For previous posts, visit: https://lnkd.in/gJeqf9xu

Ever felt like a square peg in a round hole? Here are some eye-opening realizations from our May Gather on job role fit: 1. Understanding your strengths and weaknesses isn’t just important — it’s everything. Imagine trying to use a hammer to paint a picture. Ridiculous, right? That’s your career if you’re in the wrong role. When you truly get what you’re great at, you find a role where you don’t just fit — you shine. 2. Job satisfaction isn’t just a buzzword. It’s about aligning your values and work style with an environment that propels you forward. But hey, we all have bills to pay, right? Sometimes, you’ve got to take that job to keep the lights on. It’s about balancing the practical with the aspirational. 3. Standing still? That’s moving backward. The best job fits not only match your current skills but also offer pathways for growth. Adaptability and a thirst for knowledge keep you ahead of the curve, turning a good job into a great career. In the meantime, find inspiration from your network, like me. Keep moving, keep learning, and keep hustling. — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — Thank you to the wonderful May Gather crew who inspires me to be better than I was yesterday. 📬 Interested in joining our next Gather? 🚀 Amidst the flood of layoff news on LinkedIn and YouTube, here's my take: In times of uncertainty, your skills become your armor, and there's no recession for the truly skilled and confident! 🛡️ 💼 Here are my mantras: Focus on Your Skills: Hone your expertise, dive into your passion, and watch the right opportunities unfold. Resilience is Your Superpower: Challenges are part of every journey. Find support, especially from the person who once sat in your chair. Control the Controllables: External factors shouldn't dictate your path. Focus on what you can control; let go of what you can't. Remember: There's no recession for skilled minds. 🌐💻 In a tech-driven world, your expertise is your passport to endless possibilities. Keep doing great work, stay resilient, and trust the process! 💙✨ Tag a fellow techie who needs this reminder. Together, we rise! 🚀🔗 If you seek support in getting Job, reach out to Career Express us via email at contact.careerexpress@gmail.com or https://lnkd.in/evgTWQcT and let us help you prepare for success. 🚀 #TechResilience #CareerJourney #SkillUp #TechOptimism #StayMotivated 🌟💬
