Because the ocean’s “high seas” are legally beyond any single nation's control, they have historically lacked a comprehensive international biodiversity conservation policy. But that is set to change in 2025, thanks to the High Seas Treaty, part of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, which will introduce new marine conservation tools for areas beyond national jurisdictions–finally allowing scientists to address the impact of #climatechange on areas comprising two-thirds of the surface area of the planet’s oceans. The first meeting on implementing the High Seas Treaty takes place this month here in NYC; this article in Nature Portfolio has compelling details about how nations can make the most of this opportunity: https://lnkd.in/enjw_-2T #ClimateAction

Thank you The New York Climate Exchange. American Museum of Natural History is proud (and excited) to partner with you on this critical work! #climateaction #NewYorkClimateExchange
Last week, @United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres delivered a powerful address on the urgent need for #climateaction at the American Museum of Natural History (AMNH), a partner of The #NewYorkClimateExchange. Our partners play a critical role in the fight against climate change. AMNH President Sean Decatur also spoke at the event, emphasizing, “We are in the midst of a climate crisis. This is just undeniable, the evidence is clear. But many of the solutions are also clear … a much bigger difficulty is finding the will and courage to act in response to the alarm.” As our planet faces the escalating impacts of human-caused climate change, convening climate experts from across sectors to develop and implement solutions has never been more crucial. We are proud to collaborate with the American Museum of Natural History and our extensive network of partners at The Exchange.
