State, federal, local and tribal partners participated in a statewide exercise last week that included more than 66 state agencies and 50 local agencies at the State Emergency Operations Center (SEOC) in Raleigh. All of these entities are part of the North Carolina State Emergency Response Team (SERT) and worked through the convergence of three major events in a two-day statewide exercise. This week 20 students from the US Army, NC Emergency Management agencies and other emergency response agencies are taking the Foundations of Emergency Management course at Fort Liberty. A Fort Liberty Emergency Manager is also studying to be a Support Instructor while taking the course.

Did you know that NCEM has 17 engineers that are members of the NC Urban Search and Rescue Program? Their job is to perform structural assessments during structural collapse or compromise situations to inform first responders on the safest and most effective way to rescue people. Recently, 3 of our Structure Specialists attended the Advanced Structures Specialist Training at the NASA Ames Research Center in California. This training focused on incident scenarios, load testing different shoring equipment, and provided key information that they will bring back to NC. NC Emergency Management joined Chatham and surroundings county swift water rescue teams in a joint exercise with Fort Liberty at Jordan Lake today. Fort Liberty Paratroopers worked on parachuting from helicopters into the lake while swift water rescue teams exercised rescuing them from the lake. A great example of local, state and federal partnerships.
