Even though the iPhone 16 is currently unavailable, early rumors suggest that Apple will unveil an all-new iPhone 17 model next year. There's a twist here since the purported newest model will be the priciest version in the lineup.

The Information is the first to report that the all-slim model could surpass the Pro Max price, currently starting at $1,199, indicating it might become the new highest-end option by 2025.

Before iPhone 17 Slim, iPhone 17 Makeover First

The iPhone 17 will reportedly undergo a major redesign, reminiscent of the transformation seen with the iPhone X. Notable changes may include relocating the rear cameras from the top-left corner to the top center of the device and narrowing the Dynamic Island. 

Moreover, the display size will range between 6.1 and 6.7 inches, with additional enhancements like an aluminum chassis, an A19 chip, and an improved front camera.

All-New iPhone 17 Slim

According to rumors, the iPhone 17 Slim will replace the Plus model, currently the iPhone 15 Plus. This new model is expected to be larger than both the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro, with an approximate length of 6.6 inches. 

Haitong International Securities Analyst Jeff Pu suggests tweaking the design, which will feature improvements to the front-facing camera and a reduced Dynamic Island.

Current iPhone Size Issues

Switching to an iPhone 14 or 15 Pro Max revealed some size-related challenges. Despite appreciating many features over the older iPhone 12, the iPhone 14 Pro Max feels too large, especially when using protective cases. The phone often breaches the top of the pockets, making it cumbersome.

While the iPhone 15 Pro Max is slightly smaller, the overall trend of increasing size in basic iPhones, like the iPhone 15 at 5.81 inches compared to the iPhone 14's 5.78 inches, adds to concerns about overly elongated phones. 

Apple may be considering a slimmer design, but this doesn't address the core issues of practicality and portability.

Why the iPhone 17 Slim May Not Solve Size Issues

A thinner phone design introduces several challenges. Thinner screens can lead to design issues, compromising the benefits of larger screens, such as improved user experience. Testing various apps on devices like the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and iPhone 14 Pro Max highlighted the advantage of foldable phones with larger screens.

Foldable phones benefit from their ability to fold, making them more transportable despite their size. Regular smartphones lack this flexibility, so making a phone thinner sacrifices screen size on one axis while maintaining extended length, complicating usability.

Practicality Concerns with a Thinner Design

A thinner phone may present difficulties, especially for users with hand mobility issues who might struggle with a thinner touchscreen keyboard. Moreover, the slim design does not address the portability problem, as the phone remains challenging to carry.

It's interesting to know how far this rumor has reached. Apple could be preparing for its big revelation next year. If the Cupertino giant wants it to be received warmly by the masses, it should also consider its pros and cons.

If the iPhone 17 production in India is completed on time, we anticipate it arriving without problems.
