Tesla's new software update, 2024.20, brings several integral improvements to certain Tesla models, including better adaptive headlights, air conditioning, and a new leaderboard for Tesla Arcade's Beach Buggy.

According to Electrek, the primary innovation is that vehicles with matrix LED headlights can now adjust the adaptive illumination feature to accommodate road curves.

Specifically, Tesla is improving its AC for all Model 3/Y and new Model S/X models in auto mode, which will benefit hot weather situations. With the AC on Auto, the user's car can now cool the cabin more quickly and better control the HV battery's temperature, improving supercharger performance.

Furthermore, according to Tesla, the AC modifications will result in a quieter temperature control system for the Cybertruck. Finally, Tesla enhanced the entertaining features available on its in-car video game platform, "Tesla Arcade."

One of Tesla's most popular in-car games, Beach Buggy, now allows players to set records to compete on a leaderboard exclusive to Supercharger stations.

Significant Tesla Software Update

With each new software update, Tesla has provided drivers with essential new features, some of which are more important than others. After receiving reports from users who failed to pay attention when using the Autopilot system, Tesla recently implemented several measures to guarantee that drivers keep their hands on the steering controls and their eyes on the road.

Chimes and "nags" on the steering wheel are used as alertness indicators to ensure the driver is paying attention and prepared to take over. However, the NHTSA has determined this is insufficient following a lengthy record of Autopilot-related incidents.

Tesla's FSD Software Update

A software update that Tesla has made available to staff members to fix these issues will eventually be accessible to the general public. Vision-Based Attention Monitoring is one of the most notable aspects of the latest Full Self-Driving (FSD) software v12.4 release.

According to the statement, the driver monitoring system currently mostly uses the cabin camera to assess driver attentiveness.

This innovative driver monitoring system ensures that the driver is paying attention by delivering strikes whenever the driver's hands are off the steering wheel or it senses that they are not looking at the road, other cars, or their surroundings.

The modified strike system is now more lenient, which is fantastic news. After five strikes, the system used to disable a driver's FSD for one week. Only after that week or once a year, when Tesla resolved every striker's strike, would these be reset.

With time, the new strikeout system will gradually eliminate strikes, making it more lenient. According to the release notes, a motorist will receive one strike less every seven days without obtaining a new one.

Tesla has verified that the latest update would not be compatible with earlier jailbreaks. Insufficient lighting, a covered camera, a driver not facing forward, and a driver who wears sunglasses or a hat that covers their eyes will all prevent the new Vision-Based Attention Monitoring function from activating. 

While utilizing Autopilot, the driver must continuously pressure the steering wheel because the system will revert to the previous version if it detects any of these conditions.
