Would you believe that there's a solar plant in China that can supply electricity to the whole country? It's the biggest one in the world, so far.
When it comes to its size, imagine it having the same area as New York City. Currently located in a desert region of Xinjiang, the 5GW complex boasts 200,000 acres of coverage, connected to China's grid.
World's Biggest Solar Farm is in China

China has officially unveiled the world's biggest solar farm to date. It's so big that it can cover two particular countries from two different continents.
As per The Independent, this solar plant is capable of supplying electricity to a small country like Luxembourg or Papua Guinea.
With its 2023 vision to improve its capacity by over 50%, China already sees itself as a leader in solar power adoption.
Now, the new solar farm surpasses the previous Ningxia Teneggeli and Golmud Wutumeiren solar projects. Surprisingly, these two locations are in China, as well.
With many countries embracing the use of solar power, China is persistent in achieving an "extraordinary" feat towards renewables.
According to the report by the International Energy Agency (IEA), the new renewable capacity of China accounts for roughly 60%. The country expects to make it operational by 2028.
"China's role is critical in reaching the global goal of tripling renewables because the country is expected to install more than half of the new capacity required globally by 2030. At the end of the forecast period, almost half of China's electricity generation will come from renewable energy sources," the report adds.
Meanwhile, Longi Green Energy Technology, a prominent player, detailed in its analysis that solar panels across Chinese households are enough to provide electricity to the whole country and Southeast Asia.
The only thing that worries the experts is the production of solar panels in China. According to them, such high numbers could result in trade tensions brought by overcapacity.

What About the US When it Comes to Renewable Energy Transition?
In early May, Tech Times reported that the United States was struggling to keep up with the adoption of renewable energy sources. Despite its progress, it appears that there's a sharp drop in the use of fossil fuel-fired power plants.
Going back to Chinese solar panel tech, the Biden administration imposed some changes when it comes to the tariffs on imports. The administration indicated that it would be doubled to 50% from 25%.
The reversal of the decision was brought by the surge of Chinese-made panels in the US market. This would mean that the Biden administration is hoping to see a spike in the demand for domestic solar panel suppliers in the country.
