The age of handhelds and portable gaming consoles is dawning on us again, with Xbox set to be the next major brand to unveil its new device at an event this week.

Rumors are focusing on the new handheld gaming console's appearance at the Xbox Games Showcase event on June 9. However, this could still not be a sign of the console's nearing release date, as Microsoft previously did this for the Series S and X consoles.

Xbox Handheld Reveal Coming This Weekend

A new scoop from a renowned and trusted Xbox insider, eXtas1s, brings a wild claim regarding the upcoming Xbox Games Showcase this weekend, one where it would finally reveal its much-awaited Xbox handheld gaming console to the world.

According to the leaker, this device was dubbed the "Xbox Portable," a similar name to Sony's first handheld device take on its flagship console, the "PlayStation Portable."

However, this reveal would reportedly not fully unveil the device. Instead, it would focus on a teaser that would signify that Microsoft and Xbox are still working on the console. There are still no further details about the Xbox Portable, and the insider does not expect additional information about it at the June 9 event.

Xbox Games Showcase Event: What to Expect?

Microsoft's upcoming Xbox Games Showcase event will deliver the many different games and experiences it has in store for its patrons for the rest of the year and beyond.

It is also the perfect time to tease its handheld gaming console during the event, one that would confirm that it is happening soon. Previous Microsoft reveals suggest that the device will arrive next year. The Xbox Series X was initially teased in 2019 and launched in 2020.

Xbox's Handheld Device Rumors

In recent years, portable gaming consoles have taken the gaming industry by storm. That is because they are capable and powerful devices that are easy to bring anywhere.

The Nintendo Switch initially popularized portable gaming consoles, but Valve's Steam Deck signaled a new era for PC-like experiences in a small form factor. Other companies followed soon, with ASUS offering the ROG Ally, Ayaneo with its multiple devices, Lenovo's LEGION GO, and more.

That said, Microsoft has yet to enter this portable gaming market, as the company has yet to release a handheld. Previously, users looked into a hack that turns the Microsoft Surface Duo into an Xbox handheld.

Now is the ideal time for Microsoft to enter the world of handheld consoles, as they are still on the rise and have proven that it is possible to bring the PC-esque experience to a portable device.

The rumored and speculated Xbox handheld is now being teased for a reveal this week, and it may change Microsoft's gaming landscape for all.
