Apple may debut its generative AI venture at this year's Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) next week, with sources indicating cooperation with OpenAI to improve Siri.

New features and improvements powered by Apple's geHnerative AI models are due this year. However, it is also considering external collaborations for sophisticated AI. According to sources, John Giannandrea and Craig Federighi met with OpenAI CEO Sam Altman.

A TechCrunch report cited Bloomberg's info on the planned revelations at the upcoming WWDC 2024 event on Monday at 10 a.m. PT. Apple's general AI effort, "Apple Intelligence," retains the AI initials for its huge language model efforts.

Apple Intelligence will be an opt-in beta, like post-WWDC developer OS upgrades. It is expected to be available on new iPhones, iPads, and Macs, with limited compatibility for older devices such as the iPhone 15 Pro and those with the M1 processor or higher. The standard iPhone 15 may not support the new system.

According to the report, part of Apple's AI upgrade is improving Safari page summaries and notification summaries. Siri's 2024 upgrades include voice-controlled picture editing. Apple's AI strategy prioritizes usability above showy features to make its operating system more accessible.

Moreover, despite hardware limits, the system will use local and cloud-based processes, depending on job complexity.
