The highly controversial AI Overview feature from Google is still reportedly flawed,  despite the company promising that it will bring a fix for users in the coming months. It was only introduced to users last May via the I/O 2024 event, which spotlighted the generative AI experience available in Search that makes browsing easier and better for all.

Initially, AI Overviews was under fire for unusual suggestions and confusing results, with its most notorious one being putting glue on pizza.

Google's AI Overview is Still Flawed

Google said that it would improve AI Overview and fix what went wrong with the AI, but after checking back on the feature, The Verge reported that it is still flawed. This was after the pledge to revamp AI Overview's user experience after it was heavily criticized by the public for its misleading and inaccurate results.

Initially, AI Overview did not appear much on Google Search when giving off answers to users, with the usual experience showing the search results from the top suggested onwards.

Still, AI Overview is a feature available on Google Search for users who opted in or want to see what it says.

Glue on Pizza Suggestion

However, according to a Bluesky user's screenshot, when asking Search about adding glue to pizza, a renowned error from AI Overview, it did not give an exact answer.

Instead, AI Overview was seen quoting an article from Business Insider last May 2024, featuring Katie Notopoulos' recipe following this glue-on pizza suggestion, which is 1/8 cup or two tablespoons of non-toxic glue.

Google's AI Overview

May 14's announcement of generative AI in Search, a.k.a. AI Overview, was Google's take on integrating AI into people's daily use. The company promised to improve Google's Search by offering a summary of all the results instead of letting users browse each website, blog post, or article about their query.

However, that was not entirely the case when it came to the actual experiences and testing of the users. Despite being powered by Google's top AI, AI Overviews presented issues with what it has to offer. It was said to have produced incorrect search results and misleading information that confused users, and it was not instantly giving results as there was a short delay.

After the entire AI Overview fiasco, Google admitted its mistakes and said it would tweak the feature for users and deliver a better and improved version. Fast-forward to a few weeks later, and AI Overview is still flawed, according to reports, with the Search feature suggesting users use non-toxic glue again for pizza, among other things.
