The highly anticipated update for the Nothing Phone, Nothing OS 3.0, is set to launch alongside the Nothing Phone (2a) Community Edition.

This special edition device will feature hardware modifications designed by the fan base, as well as public-created wallpaper and packaging.

Ahead of its release, Carl Pei, Nothing's CEO shared some features that we are about to see soon. On X, he teased about them.

Pei Revealed Exclusive Nothing OS 3.0 Features

As early as now, Pei has teased some of the exciting new features that will be part of Nothing OS 3.0.

The 34-year-old founder showcased these updates on his "X" account, where he uses the memorable handle "@getpeid." His posts highlighted new lock screen capabilities and innovative interactive dot animations for Quick Settings.

Customizable Lock Screen Options

One of the noticeable features of Nothing OS 3.0 is the customizable lock screen. Pei shared images revealing three different customization options available to users:

1. Default Look: Displays the clock, day, and date.
2. Clock + Widget: Shows the time in dot format with three widgets - weather, quick actions shortcut, and date.
3. Expanded Widget Area: Features an analog clock with a large date tile and widgets for quick actions, weather, and contacts.

Interactive Dot Animations

Another exciting addition to Nothing OS 3.0 is the Interactive Dot Animation, which consists of three layers: the input image layer, the live interaction layer, and the final output layer, per Phone Arena. This feature promises to bring a dynamic and engaging user experience to the Quick Settings menu.

New Native Apps

Nothing OS 3.0 will also introduce a new native gallery and a community app, enhancing the user experience and providing more integrated functionality. These apps aim to offer seamless interaction and better content management for Nothing Phone users.

Official Announcement and Availability

Pei has announced that the official reveal of Nothing OS 3.0 will take place in September so we still have three months of waiting time. This timeline follows the release pattern from last year when Nothing OS 2.0 was launched in August. The new update will be available for Nothing Phone (1), Nothing Phone (2), and the upcoming Nothing Phone (2a).

Pei's Enthusiastic Leak

Pei's enthusiasm for the new update was evident in his recent tweet, where he apologized to his team for leaking information but expressed his excitement about the new lock screen customizations. This isn't the first time Pei has used his personal social media accounts to share details about upcoming releases, having done so previously at both OnePlus and Nothing.

While Nothing 3.0 OS is already marked for September launch, Pei clarified that Nothing Phone 3 won't be coming this year. Instead, it will be released along with AI features sometime in 2025.
