OpenAI Delaying Launch of Seductive ChatGPT Voice Assistants

OpenAI has delayed the launch of its seductive ChatGPT voice assistants, pushing back their release until fall for most users. If you are eager to interact with one of these captivating AI voice assistants this summer, you'll need to wait a bit longer.

The company announced on Tuesday that its "advanced Voice Mode" feature requires more time to meet launch standards. Initially, the feature will be introduced to a small group of users for feedback, with plans to roll it out to all paying ChatGPT customers later this year.

OpenAI is currently enhancing the model's ability to detect and manage specific types of content. Additionally, they are focused on improving user experience and preparing their infrastructure to handle millions of interactions while maintaining real-time responsiveness.

The deployment strategy will begin with a small alpha group to gather initial feedback. Plans to expand access to all Plus users by fall are contingent upon meeting rigorous safety and reliability criteria. OpenAI is also progressing with separate developments for new video and screen-sharing features, with updates on timelines forthcoming.

ChatGPT's advanced Voice Mode aims to enable more dynamic and natural interactions, advancing AI toward real-time conversational capabilities. OpenAI remains committed to delivering these enhancements thoughtfully and effectively.

OpenAI's decision to delay the release of its advanced ChatGPT voice assistants until fall reflects its dedication to ensuring high performance and user safety. While this postponement may disappoint those eager for summer interactions with these innovative tools, it underscores OpenAI's commitment to refining its capabilities.

By prioritizing improvements in content filtering, user experience, and scalability, OpenAI aims to deliver a more seamless and responsive AI interaction.

Legal Challenges Surrounding OpenAI's Sky Voice Demo

Since 2023, ChatGPT has included voice capabilities. However, OpenAI recently showcased an enhanced version that impressed many with its remarkably human-like qualities, prompting comparisons to Samantha, the alluring voice assistant portrayed by Scarlett Johansson in the 2013 film "Her."

Following the presentation, Johansson publicly criticized OpenAI, alleging that the technology replicated her voice without consent despite the company's denial of using her voice.

She said that she has instructed her lawyers to write to OpenAI seeking clarification on how the Sky voice was created. The actress noted that OpenAI had previously approached her to provide her voice for the assistant, a proposal she had declined.

OpenAI insisted that Sky's voice was not intentionally modeled after Johansson's, but this statement may not shield the company from potential legal consequences.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman may have unintentionally worsened the situation. At a recent company event, Altman cryptically posted the word "her" on X, which seemed to hint at the similarity between the demo and the character from the film.
