WhatsApp is reportedly developing a feature that allows users to select the Large Language Model Meta AI (Llama) 3 model for the Meta AI chatbot.

This feature is in development and not yet available to beta testers, according to a Thursday feature tracker update reported by Gadget360. With the new functionality, users can choose between the Llama 3-70B AI model and the more sophisticated Llama 3-405B AI model for a limited number of prompts.

WABetaInfo, a popular WhatsApp feature tracker, discovered this upcoming feature in WhatsApp for Android beta version 2.24.14.7. Beta testers cannot see or interact with it yet. In the upcoming feature, users may choose between the speedier Llama 3-70B model and the more advanced Llama 3-405B model with this new feature, which builds on the app's Meta AI chatbot.

WABetaInfo screenshots show the new "Meta Llama model" options menu, wherein users can pick their AI model from this menu. The Llama 3-70B model is "faster," while the 3-405B is "better for more complex prompts."

The feature notes: "Preview the 405B model for a limited number of weekly prompts. After reaching your limit, use the 70B model to continue conversations."

The Llama 3-405B AI model is not yet available. Although Meta released the 8B and 70B models in April, it still trained the 400 billion-parameter Llama 3 model. According to this new WhatsApp feature, Meta plans to fine-tune the 405B model depending on user interactions.

Video Replies Feature Coming Soon

Moreover, WhatsApp is exploring a video reply option, a departure from its text and voice chatting features, TechTimes previously reported.

The discovery in WhatsApp for Android beta version 2.24.14.5 shows the platform's trend toward interactive and intuitive communications. With the new update, users may now answer video messages with video replies, a major improvement over the previous version that only permitted text or voice responses.

Meta's WhatsApp beta releases have included several features. Video answers improve user involvement by enabling smooth, reciprocal conversation. User responses to video messages may now be video, making conversations more interactive.

This functionality is only available in WhatsApp for Android beta. It will be included in the public release soon, extending media possibilities for all users.

WhatsApp Will Stop Updating in Over 30 Devices

Meta innovates WhatsApp's beta features, testing them before releasing them. Recently, the platform included AI picture production and media content upgrades. WhatsApp's development team has also been working on security features like Chat Lock, which keeps closed chats safe even when users enter on different devices.

In another update, WhatsApp announced that it will stop updating in 35 devices with older Google and Apple operating systems. This list contains Samsung, Motorola, Huawei, Sony, LG, and Apple devices, per GizChina. The article advised users to check the list to see if their smartphone is impacted by the move.

Despite their age, some people use old smartphones and tablets because of their good hardware. However, WhatsApp recommends Android 5.0 and iOS 12 for continued use of the service. This allows the app to access newer operating system technologies for safe and efficient messaging online.
