That was one of the spiciest post-match interviews I've heard in a long time at Wimbledon. It was good to hear Novak speaking from the heart. He was playing against Rune tonight but also those in the stands he wasn't overly impressed with. A spicy, spikey and brilliant Novak into the last eight.

Here's Novak Djokovic giving it both barrels to the Wimbledon crowd.

    Great viewing.

I don't know whether Rishi [Persad] expected those answers from Novak. That carried some heat. As much as we were talking about the support Rune was getting from the Danes we were thinking in the commentary box there was no disrespect meant. It was interesting to hear Novak Djokovic clearly feeling otherwise.

  9. 'I enjoy running at 37'published at 21:39 8 July

Finally Djokovic's thoughts on his next opponent, Alex De Minaur:

After knee surgery – are we looking at you getting better each match?

"I’m feeling great on the court and let’s take it day by day. There’s always something to work on in the off days. I’ll speak with my team tomorrow and analyse this match and get ready for the next one."

His thoughts on playing Alex De Minaur:

"I’m feeling good, I played Alex a few times on different surfaces but this is the first time on grass, He’s one of the fittest guys on the tour. I’ll have to do a lot of running. I’m enjoying my running at 37 years old."

  10. 'An excuse to boo'published at 21:34 8 July

    Rune 3-6 4-6 2-6 Djokovic

A bit more from a salty Novak Djokovic.

"I am hoping they were just commenting on Rune, and they were not disrespecting you," says master of ceremonies Rishi Persad in an interview court side

To which Novak Djokovic emphatically responds: "They were. They were. I am not accepting it. No no no.I know they were cheering for Rune but that’s an excuse to also boo.

"Listen, I have been on the tour for more than 20 years. I know all the tricks. I focus on the respectful people that pay for the ticket, and love tennis and appreciate the players. I played in much more hostile environments, trust me – you guys can’t touch me."

  11. Some of the crowd chose disrepect - Djokovicpublished at 21:28 8 July

Here's Novak Djokovic speaking on court after his victory: “I’m very pleased. I don’t think he has played anywhere close to his best to be honest. It was a tough start for him. He lost the first 12 points and I think that got to him mentally.

"Waiting all day to come out on the court is never easy. The tension is building up and stressed to get out on the court.

“On my end I think I‘ve done things at the important moments. Things could have looked different if I lost those services games but very solid at the end and I’m very happy to get through in straight sets.”

On the crowd support for Rune, and their reaction:

"To all the fans that have had respect and stayed here tonight , I think you from the bottom of my heart and I appreciate it.

"And to all those people that have chosen to disrespect the player (in this case me) have a goooooooood night."

Crowd row aside, that was absolutely imperious from Novak Djokovic.

He barely looked troubled against Holger Rune, who a few were tipping for an upset tonight. In truth, he never looked close at even threatening to nab a set.

  14. Postpublished at 21:22 8 July

    WOW.

Novak Djokovic is unleashing in his on court interview about the "disrespect" he felt from the crowd.

He is not happy. Full quotes to come shortly.

    And there it is.

A cushioned cross-court volley at the net is all it takes for Novak Djokovic to wrap up an absolutely imperious victory.

He shakes hands with his opponent at the net and then mimes playing a violin towards his daughter, Tara, who has taken up the hobby recently.

Djokovic is the guy that’s taken it to Rune from the moment he’s stepped on the court, and despite the fact he’s beaten him twice, it didn't look like Rune had the belief he could do it here.
