OpenOffice.org vs OpenOffice

[edit]

Shouldn't this template be named simply OpenOffice or Open Office, as OpenOffice.org is a specific distribution, which is different from the others? 82.41.27.12 (talk) 00:49, 6 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

No, the correct name of the software IS "OpenOffice.org". "OpenOffice" or "Open Office" are misspellings. I don't know why the software itself is listed under distributions. --208.80.119.67 (talk) 02:57, 14 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Apache OpenOffice

[edit]

Apache OpenOffice is a rebranding of OpenOffice.org code under a new administration (the Apache Foundation) that took place a few months ago. Since this template is meant to link to the major Wikipedia articles connected to the classic OpenOffice.org, including forks that happened well before the code went into hiatus until its transfer to Apache, the title of the template should reflect that.

It doesn't make sense for the many articles that show this template, such as Go-oo, Lotus Symphony, NeoOffice and of course LibreOffice, none of which ever had anything to do with Apache, to show a template entitled Apache OpenOffice.

The problem is solved by using the classic title OpenOffice.org and showing its derivatives as rebrandings and forks. Dovi (talk) 08:18, 9 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
