The First Nations Information Governance Centre (FNIGC) is an incorporated non-profit operating with a special mandate from the Assembly of First Nations’ Chiefs in Assembly (Resolution #48, December 2009). FNIGC is committed to improving the health and well-being of First Nations people living in our 634 communities across the country. Vision: The First Nations Information Governance Centre envisions that every First Nation will achieve data sovereignty in alignment with its distinct world view. Mission: With First Nations, we assert data sovereignty and support the development of information governance and management at the community level through regional and national partnerships. We adhere to free, prior and informed consent, respect nation-to-nation relationships, and recognize the distinct customs of nations.

It's a wrap! FNIGC had a blast at the 45th Annual Assembly of First Nations AGA in Montreal last week, where we were able to share our First Nations data sovereignty work with community members. We also launched our new Cannabis and Mental Wellness community toolkit, raffled off a FNIGC premium prize pack that was valued at $350, and made a ton of new connections with so many other First Nations people and organizations. Special thanks to the AFN for hosting another great AGA and giving so many First Nations organizations an opportunity to share and network with each other. Thanks to everyone who stopped by our booth and chatted with us!

FNIGC mourns the passing of Alex LaFrance, a long-time employee who was based in Akwesasne. A devoted family man and outdoorsman, Alex was smart, funny, kind, and always thoughtful in all of his interactions. We will miss him deeply.
