Following the flooding in Brazil, many families were displaced and staying in shelters. Our Rapid Response Team installed a water purification unit at a World Central Kitchen location where thousands of meals were being prepared for the affected community. This will ensure that the kitchen has safe water to cook with and the community will have access to clean drinking water.

Our Rapid Response Team is in Romania packing another round of 2,500 food hampers. They'll work with our partners, Johanniter-Unfall-Hilfe e.V., to deliver the kits to Ukraine to support families affected by the war. A big thank you to the Canada-Ukraine Foundation and the Ukrainian Canadian Congress for supporting our food security program.

Flooding caused extensive damage across the GTA. Our partners and volunteers have stepped up to support the community. We teamed up with Food Banks Mississauga and Mississauga Fire and Emergency Services to provide hygiene items, comfort kits and snacks to residents of a long term care facility who were displaced by the flood. We also delivered food and hygiene items St. Philip Neri's Table who lost a lot of their food bank product to flood damage as well.

WHAT IS A FAMILY EMERGENCY KIT? After a crisis, families face many challenges. One of the tools GlobalMedic uses to support families are our Family Emergency Kits (FEKs). These kits have been designed as a holistic solution to solve multiple needs faced by families in crisis. These kits contain a point-of-use water filtration system, hygiene items and a solar light. They are lightweight, require zero electricity and can provide a family with clean drinking water for up to a year, making them ideal for displaced families who are returning home to clean up and rebuild after a disaster. Thanks to our hardworking volunteers, we can lower our costs and deliver more of the right aid to the right people at the right time.

While our Rapid Response Team was distributing aid in Jamaica to support people affected by Hurricane Beryl, volunteers from Kiwanis Club of Toronto Caribbean were in our warehouse preparing more Family Emergency Kits. Each kit contains a household water purification unit, hygiene items and a solar light to protect the health and safety of vulnerable families.

Our Rapid Response Team deployed to Jamaica with an AquaResponse3 water purification system to install in a community kitchen that is preparing meals for a community affected by Hurricane Beryl. This will ensure they have clean water to cook with and the community will have access to safe drinking water. Watch our volunteer Marty, retired Platoon Chief of Vaughan Fire & Rescue, describe the different components of the system.
