🌊🌿 At Cocos Island National Park (PNIC), we are leading the way in combating marine invasive species. Thanks to the support of the Charles Darwin Foundation and the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center, we have trained our park rangers and established the first marine research laboratory in collaboration with FAICO Amigos Isla del Coco, Blue Action Fund and Re:wild. Still about the marine biodiversity conference held in Nacala-Porto between 17 and 18 of June 🐳 🦀 🐠 🌊 🌊 After the main event, we set an exhibition and environmental awareness activities for students and public from 19th to the 23rd of June. 🏆 🏆 🏆 I’m proud to have led this component that culminated in: 🦈 726 visitors (excluding the participants of the main event). These visitors are from:  🦈 8 Public schools (214 students). 🦈 11 Private schools (334 students). 🦈 178 people from other places.   I want to emphasize the participation of 3 public schools that came from Mozambique island, Memba and Mossuril districts. These kids travelled more than 200Km to participate in the activities.  I am giving emphasis to this because students from the public system rarely have hight quality extracurricular activities like the ones presented by this conference. The activities consisted of 🎣 A tour in a collection of marine biodiversity photos, and marine ecosystems informative panels. 🎣 An immersive experience in virtual reality where they saw the underwater world (videos recorded here in Mozambique). 🎣 A recycling station where they crafted numerous objects using plastic trash.   Special thanks to the Government Department of Education for intermediating and authorizing the selection of the schools; Marine Megafauna Foundation for collaborating with us during the whole week offering the VR experience. It was surreal for the students. FAO-Mozambique for the financial support to the logistics of the students and for teaching them the connection between ecosystem #restoration (specially #mangroves) and food security. #UbuntoEducacional for the assistance in the field 👏   It was worthy as you can see in the pictures bellow I still have few more things to share about this conference, it was eventful 🦐 🦐 🦐 Conferência da Biodiversidade Marinha BIOFUND _ Blue Action Fund #MIMAIP

OCEAN is looking to appoint marine and development experts to our existing OCEAN Expert Committee to provide high quality, specialist advice on which OCEAN project applications should receive funding. We are therefore looking for individuals who, as leaders in their field, can contribute at the highest levels and work effectively as part of our existing OCEAN Expert Committee. Members will be expected to assess and score applications against set criteria, to agreed timelines and standards, provide strategic advice and champion the OCEAN grants programme. We would like to encourage applications from a wide range of backgrounds and global contexts, including  the  private sector, academia and professional institutions, non-governmental organisations, and other stakeholders. Applicants can be based anywhere, but applications from those in low- and middle-income Official Development Assistance (ODA) eligible countries are particularly encouraged.
