Our hearts are full. This was a day of nourishing our souls by connecting with our international community of slow designers and celebrating the craft of fashion. We are grateful that through our first Berlin Fashion Week event, we could present a new pathway for fashion, one that is rooted in reciprocity, well-being, and a deep love for beauty and craft. In the last decade, a movement of slow and discerning designers has been growing out of sight from the spotlight, taking the lead from slow food and bringing a new appreciation for healthy soil and raw materials, preserving traditional textile crafts under threat from extinction, and understanding that caring and accountable relationships matter. It’s been a joy to bring them together in partnership with Dr. Hauschka DE, the pionier in natural cosmetics, and SO/ Berlin Das Stue in the first of hopefully many more showcases to come. Our heart goes out to all the beautiful brands who joined us in our first edition: Hamaji Studio, Studio Kristina Sipulova, Bunon, AVENIR ound, PEOPLE Berlin, faible and failure, Toino Abel, auprès, Zenzi Objects, Mona Osterkamp, Johanna Gauder, studio ēna. And to all the beautiful souls who made this day possible: Sandrine Demers, Hardeep Kaur, Yoko Iwasa, Felix Herter, Kristina Hellhake, Felix-William Schwarz, Becca Warner, Leonie Sinden, Paolo de Jesus, Dörte de Jesus, Tyla Jurgens, Philipp Köhler. A heartfelt thank you to Pukka Herbs for warming and calming us with their lovely selection of teas, and to Kruut for nourishing us throughout the day with their delicious and energising Ayurveda oxymel. Farming Fashion: Wool. Calling designers and farmers for online meet ups! Centre for Sustainable Fashion (CSF) have joined forces with South East England Fibershed (SEE) and South West England (SWE) Fibreshed to support Fibreshed’s mission to revalue UK wool and create short, transparent bio-regional fibre and fashion supply networks with potential for replication. SEE and SWE Fibresheds have just launched their Farming Fashion: Wool guide that addresses one of the key issues identified in an extensive consultation with farmers, designers, and processors - the lack of links, common language and understanding of each other’s requirements and production cycles. Through our new Future Fashion Landscapes project, we are connecting CSF and Fibreshed networks, using the guide to open conversations and facilitate long-term collaborations between farmers and designers in the SE and SW regions. As the first step, we are convening a series of on-line meet ups to introduce the guide and start conversations on experiences, opportunities and challenges between farmers and designers. The meet ups will be co-hosted by Emma Hague, Director of SWE Fibreshed; Deborah Barker FRSA, Director of SEE Fibreshed and Dr. Mila Burcikova from Centre for Sustainable Fashion, London College of Fashion, University of the Arts London. These will be later followed by in-person meet-ups in Bristol, London, and several farms in the SE and SW regions. Interested? Please e-mail Emma Hague (emma@southwestenglandfibreshed.co.uk), with a brief response to the following questions: - Do you use wool in your design practice? - Do you have any experience with soil-to-soil textiles? - Do you currently have capacity for a new collaboration?
