    🛑 STOP USING BMI BMI (Body Mass Index) is a simple calculation based on height and weight. It does not differentiate between muscle, fat, and bone mass. It provides a broad categorization (underweight, normal weight, overweight, obese) without considering individual differences in body composition. Measuring with BMI is misleading for different body types. It ignores fat distribution, lacks context, gives no direct measure of health, and has a huge potential for stigmatisation. ⭐️ START USING INBODY BIA (Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis) is an accurate method to measure Body Composition. BIA measures the resistance (impedance) of body tissues to the flow of a small, safe electrical signal passed through the body. It’s a non-invasive procedure, quick and convenient, and gives you a comprehensive analysis of body fat percentage, lean body mass, total body water, and other components of body composition in segments, providing detailed regional body composition analysis. While BMI can offer a quick snapshot of population health trends, it is insufficient and often misleading when applied to individual health assessments.     The 4th of July marks World Sarcopenia Day. ± 30% of the elderly population is affected by sarcopenia. Even though the numbers are increasing each year, this condition is still relatively unknown. Reason enough to create extra attention and awareness around sarcopenia. Sarcopenia is a common but often under-recognized condition. Early diagnosis and intervention through exercise, nutrition, and lifestyle modifications can help manage and prevent sarcopenia, improving overall health and quality of life. Combining body composition analysis with a grip strength test provides a comprehensive approach to the prevention and diagnosis of sarcopenia.     🇳🇱 Netherlands About 1.5 million Dutch people have pre-diabetes, a preliminary phase of Diabetes type 2. This group of people has an increased risk of developing Diabetes type 2. People often do not know that they are already in this preliminary phase. In addition, there is already a group of 1.2 million Dutch people who are already struggling with Diabetes type 2. You can partly prevent Diabetes type 2 by, among other things, exercising enough, maintaining a healthy weight, getting enough sleep, minimizing stress and - if you smoke - quitting smoking. As a dietitian, you can help clients with diabetes eat healthy in a way that suits them. Because Diabetes is a chronic condition, it is often difficult to maintain motivation. Monitoring progress can be a good motivator and helps in working towards health goals. In addition, with an InBody test, you can look beyond just weight and BMI. Creating an accurate picture of your complete body composition helps with multiple health goals, such as weight loss, where building muscle mass is just as important as reducing fat mass and visceral fat levels.     It's an inevitable fact: as we get older, our bodies undergo a number of changes, not the least of which is a gradual loss of muscle mass. 💪🏼📉 According to the findings of the Baltimore Longitudinal Study of Aging, muscles grow from birth until they peak around age 30-35. From that point on, our muscle mass tends to decline slowly. Once we reach age 65 (for women) or 70 (for men), the decline accelerates. Should we just accept this or are there ways to start building muscle at a later age? 🫱🏼🫲🏽 We're happy to tell you that that's not the case! The good news is that while your body may tend toward a natural decline in muscle mass and function as you age, there are steps you can take to slow the decline. Managing sodium intake is crucial. As a coach, I lead by example. My latest InBody score is 99/100, reflecting my commitment to optimal body composition. Key Insights: Body Water: 59.6L - Monitor sodium to reduce retention. Muscle Mass: 47.4 kg - Crucial for metabolism. My BMR is 2130 kcal. Body Fat: 11.4 kg (12.3%) - Keep body fat in check for health. BMI: 27.7 - Higher due to muscle mass, not fat.
