About us
In 2024, the FAA granted Pipistrel's Velis Electro a light-sport aircraft (LSA) airworthiness exemption, offering a lower-cost and more sustainable learning platform for student pilots. In 2020, Pipistrel’s Velis Electro became the world’s first, and currently only, electric aircraft to receive full type-certification from the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA). This achievement followed a series of electric aircraft introductions since the company began research and development of electric propulsion in 2000. Pipistrel’s pioneering work has been recognized through awards from NASA, IDC, and other organizations. The company, which offers a family of gliders and light aircraft with both electric and combustion engines, has delivered more than 2,500 light aircraft worldwide since its founding in 1989 and additionally has both hybrid and electric propulsion models under development. If you are interested in Pipistrel's products, please reach out to sales@pipistrel-aircraft.com for more information.

Congratulations to Sealand Flight for successfully conducting Canada’s first commercial electric flight using our Velis Electro. We can’t wait to see aspiring aviators take to the skies in the fully-electric aircraft! #FutureofFlight
⚡✈ Canada’s First-Ever Commercial Electric Flight Takes Off! Canadian Advanced Air Mobility (CAAM) is proud to highlight the remarkable progress made by Sealand Flight in their journey towards sustainable aviation. Today, we celebrate a historic milestone in sustainable aviation as Sealand Flight successfully conducted Canada’s first commercial electric flight using the fully-electric Velis Electro Pipistrel Aircraft by Textron eAviation. Read the full press release ➡ https://lnkd.in/ezfhAExW Milestones in Sealand Flight’s Journey: 🔧 Factory Maintenance Course: In March 2024, Sealand Flight hosted a comprehensive factory maintenance course for the Pipistrel Velis Electro in Campbell River. This course, led by Pipistrel engineers, included participants from Transport Canada, Aircraft Maintenance Engineers (AMEs), Apex Aircraft, and other industry members, providing vital knowledge for maintaining and operating the electric aircraft. 🛠️ Maintenance Approval: Sealand Aviation, Sealand Flight’s sister Aircraft Maintenance organization, became the first in Canada to receive official approval to maintain the Pipistrel electric aircraft, ensuring that maintenance expertise and support infrastructure are in place. 🎉 Historic Commercial Flight: Today, Sealand Flight conducted Canada’s first commercial flight in an electric aircraft. This landmark event featured an introductory flight lesson in the Pipistrel Velis Electro, allowing the student to handle the controls under the guidance of a flight instructor. This event signifies the beginning of a new chapter in aviation, allowing for revenue generation to occur for flight schools across Canada 👨✈️ Future of Aviation Training: Following this milestone, Sealand Flight will begin training several new students from the introductory stage to the solo stage using the Pipistrel Velis Electro. This phased approach is the first part of Transport Canada - Transports Canada’s electric aircraft evaluation program. Subsequently, Transport Canada and Sealand Flight will determine the feasibility of further student use, including flying to Sealand’s other locations around Vancouver Island. This milestone not only signifies a step towards cleaner skies but also opens the door to a new era in aviation training.
