At Google Domains, we understand that many users want to keep their personal contact info private. It provides privacy-protection options at no charge for most domain endings that let you make some, or all, of your info private.
When you register a domain, Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, or ICANN, requires Google Domains to publish your name and contact info in the WHOIS directory. The public can search for your domain in the WHOIS directory to find any published contact info.
Some domains aren’t allowed to hide your personal contact info. To find out if your domain is allowed to hide your contact info, check your domain ending’s page in the Domain ending (TLD) reference.
Turn privacy protection on or off
To keep some, or all, of your personal contact info private, turn on Privacy protection. This action replaces your domain’s personal contact info in the WHOIS directory with a privacy provider’s contact info.
- On your computer, go to Google Domains.
- Select the name of your domain.
- Click Menu
Registration settings.
- Turn Privacy protection on or off.
WHOIS privacy providers
When "Privacy protection" is on, we replace your name and personal contact info with:
- Contact Privacy: The privacy provider for domain endings where Google Domains is the registrar of record.
- WHOISProxy: The privacy provider for domain endings where Key Systems is the registrar of record. To check who your registrar of records is, go to Understand your registrar or record.
Privacy restrictions
Important: Google Domains may publish different info than what your registry published. Check your registry policy.
Google Domains doesn’t offer privacy protection for all domain endings. Registries, the organizations that manage domain endings, have policies that prohibit the use of privacy protection for certain domain endings.
To learn more about privacy options for your domain:
- On your computer, go to the Domain ending (TLD) reference.
- Select About .{name of your domain} domains.
- Click Privacy information.
