After a long journey from Vancouver to Fort Lauderdale by lorry and across the Atlantic to Southampton by ship, this crash boat, built for the USAF in 1943 and served in the Pacific rescuing drowned pilots during WWII, has arrived at Berthon for repairs and upkeep. It contains two 3-day coached regattas (practice racing) and we will be using them to get ourselves dialled into the racing mindset and polish up some last bits. During the first coached regatta, we will be working on our boat on boat strategy and lane holding, so we will be putting ourselves in situations to best practice this rather than win the regatta. The second regatta will be more race- and performance-oriented. The Olympic sailing venue is very strategical so it’s important we learn as much as we can from every race we do. For the third year in a row, Team Berthon faced off against Pylewell in a friendly cricket match. The evening saw staff members gathering to support the game, catch up outside of work, and enjoy a delicious BBQ.
