I was excited to hear about their plans for redevelopment and wish them well with their project. Tourism is an important employer and driver for economic growth and I particularly welcome the Ulster Folk Museum’s commitment to sustainability, inclusive access and wellbeing and how it can support wider society.”
We were pleased to welcome the Minister for the Department for the Economy NI, Conor Murphy, to the Ulster Folk Museum yesterday, where we had the opportunity to present our ambitious ‘Reawakening’ plans. Our exciting programme of transformation aims to unlock the museum’s full potential as both a heritage and environmental resource, creating a dynamic and enriching experience for all visitors. The Minister was greeted by our Chief Executive, Kathryn Thomson, Chair, Gordon Milligan, and Tourism Northern Ireland's Director of Strategic Development, David Roberts. Following the introductions, the Minister was taken on an engaging tour through some of the museum's most beloved buildings. Throughout the visit, the Minister observed demonstrations by our talented and passionate staff, showcasing the incredible work they do to preserve and bring to life our rich cultural history. We are enthusiastic about the future and the possibilities our ‘Reawakening’ project will bring to the Ulster Folk Museum. By enhancing our facilities and expanding our programming, we aim to provide an even greater contribution to the community, fostering education, engagement, and appreciation for our heritage. We are grateful for the Minister's interest in our vision, and we look forward to the positive impact this project will have on the museum and the broader community.
