  8. Full squad rondopublished at 11:12 5 July

England v Switzerland (Sat, 17:00 BST)

    England

There is now a full squad rondo going on, three players chasing the ball - kind of like a footballing piggy in the middle for the uninitiated.

Marc Guehi, Adam Wharton and Kobbie Mainoo started as the three trying to close down their team-mates.

A strong challenge from Guehi on Jude Bellingham is matched with some light-hearted theatrics from England's Real Madrid star.

There's now a small sprinting drill in what appears to be a short series of races as they slalom markers before trying to be first to pick up a ball.

In their individual races, Anthony Gordon, Cole Palmer and Eberechi Eze all look sharp.

The races are continuing the good mood, with each group keen to claim their player has won and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink is occupying the role of referee.

Spirits seem to be high in training ahead of tomorrow's quarter-final.

Of the players grouped together in warm-ups and speed drills, they seem to be across different positions - there is a real mix of defenders, midfielders and strikers, highlighting the togetherness across the whole squad.

Manchester United goalkeeper Tom Heaton, a training goalkeeper with this England squad, admitted to the BBC in the latest episode of Football Daily that he has sometimes dropped the occasional swear word during open training, forgetting that he is surrounded by the world's media out in Germany.

He is yet to do so in the open part of the training session, certainly nothing that is audible anyway.

There will definitely be one change for England as they head into the quarter-final.

Defender Marc Guehi will miss this match through suspension after picking up two yellow cards so the question is which player will come into the side.

When Guehi went down injured in the previous match it was Lewis Dunk who was sent to warm up.

However, it is understood that Ezri Konsa has impressed in training and he was the player to come on as England saw out the win against Slovakia when the team moved to a back three.

  14. 'My heart was beating really fast, I thought I was going to pass out'published at 10:55 5 July

England v Switzerland (Sat, 17:00 BST)

    England

England midfielder Conor Gallagher also opened up on a heart scare he suffered in 2018, detected shortly after playing at the Under-19 European Championship in Finland.

Gallagher said that he did not notice it until pre-season training ahead of the 2018/19 season and after an irregular heartbeat had been detected it took him a couple of months to recover to full fitness.

"So I was with the U19s at the Euros actually, in Finland," he told BBC Radio 5 Live.

"Just randomly in training I noticed that I was getting really tired, my heart was beating really fast for no reason. I'm not even doing anything and it's really weird, but I didn't think anything of it and I carried on training every day and I wasn't playing in the tournament.

"I was kind of on the bench and maybe coming on every now and again. So I didn't really notice it as much as if I was going to play 90 minutes, I'm pretty sure I would not have been able to get through the game.

"It wasn't until after I came back from the tournament, I went back to training with Chelsea with the Under-18s or 21s, the first session back it was a tough session, it's pre-season and I had to sit out because I was getting all dizzy and my heart was beating really fast, I thought I was going to pass out, really.

"I spoke to the docs, it was the first time I had told the doctors and then I got the checks and all that and they saw there was an irregular heartbeat kind of thing.

"Basically, I had to have a minor surgery and trigger the heart back to normal speed and then had a couple of months off, recovered and then I was good to go after that, it was nothing too serious. I recovered fairly quickly."

Gallagher also added the importance to get any heart-related concerns checked early to avoid anything more serious further down the line.

"I'm one of those guys that will play through an injury, I tried playing through a heart problem, which is crazy to think about it," he said.

"If something doesn't seem right, always get it checked. It's so important, especially something as serious as that."

  16. Could three at the back free up the attacking players?published at 10:49 5 July

England v Switzerland (Sat, 17:00 BST)

    Alex Howell
BBC football news reporter at the England camp

Although three at the back sounds like a defensive formation it could be what sees England get their attacking players to thrive.

Playing that way could see Trent Alexander-Arnold play at right wing-back and allow him to show his passing ability while he has a defensive structure behind him.

Then further up the pitch if England then play with five in midfield it could also see Jude Bellingham and Phil Foden move centrally in number 10 roles in support of Harry Kane.

Bellingham scored that excellent goal in the dying moments against Slovakia but he and Foden haven't quite clicked yet and a change of formation could see them thrive as they both start nearer to their favoured position.

  19. 'Under-17s World Cup win was incredible'published at 10:37 5 July

England v Switzerland (Sat, 17:00 BST)

    England

Three Lions trio Conor Gallagher, Marc Guehi and Phil Foden were all part of the England Under-17s side who, in 2017, won the U17s World Cup.

Gallagher has said that England's win over Slovakia last Sunday, and the nature of it, was reminiscent of their World Cup triumph at youth level seven years ago.

"Me and Marc were speaking actually the other day - we grew up together at Chelsea and for England - and we're saying like there's not been a year gone by where we've not played together, either club football or international," Gallagher told BBC Radio 5 Live.

"It was after the Slovakia game - Marc was knackered as he played the full game and extra-time. I think it's the most he's ever ran. He was knackered so he just gave me a big hug and I was just saying 'look how far we've come from our academy days and Chelsea and now we're with England at the Euros'.

"So it's amazing memories and like you said the U17s World Cup was incredible memories with Marc and many others and we have come a long way.

"It was an amazing experience, somewhere none of us had been before, none of the players anyway. So it was a really amazing experience, very different lifestyle and just where we were but it was incredible, to be fair, those memories that will last forever and I'll always be grateful to be part of it."
