About

Isabelle Chapman is a producer on CNN’s investigative team who has reported on reproductive health, criminal justice and how America deals with its waste.

Her stories on America’s gun-violence epidemic have highlighted authorities’ struggles to respond to mass shootings and unpacked how society missed potential warning signs from perpetrators. After the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn federal abortion rights, Chapman traced how state-level policies hinted at the country’s post-Roe future and identified limitations in safe-haven adoption laws some anti-abortion activists see as a solution.

A 2020 investigation into New York City’s largest landfill examined how split-second decisions about the Sept. 11 terrorist attack cleanup may be contributing to lasting health problems for nearby residents.

Chapman won the 2023 Phil Reed Environmental Writing Award for her piece, “Gambling ‘America’s Amazon.’” In it, she explored the lesser-known consequences of burning coal and focused on the long-term impacts the industry may have on one of America’s most pristine wetlands.

Isabelle joined CNN in 2016 to work on the network’s social media team. She is a graduate of DePauw University and Columbia University.
