We've just launched our Small Business Barometer Report – Indonesia, a collaboration between Mastercard Center for Inclusive Growth, Mercy Corps Indonesia and the Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas Republic of Indonesia. The report uncovers three critical hurdles for Indonesian Micro and Small-Sized Enterprises (MSEs): 💻 Digital Literacy: While 81% of MSEs recognize digital tools as vital for growth, 64% struggle to use them effectively. Bridging this gap is essential for their success. 📚 Support Services: While 70% of MSEs see support services as crucial, only one-third have access to them. There’s a high demand for training in finance, digital marketing, and business skills. 💳 Access to Credit: A large proportion of MSEs (62%) think they do not need any credit. Although nearly half of those who sought credit reported no barriers to access, high interest rates (31%) remain substantial barriers. The report findings come from listening directly to owners, senior executives, directors and managers of 835 Indonesian micro and small enterprises between November 2023 and January 2024. The businesses that participated are dispersed across location, size, sector, tenure, and gender – take a closer look at the insights here: https://lnkd.in/eCV7nwuR Andi Ikhwan Andi Dian Roosahandita Christophorus Yudha Danujatmika Nur Hasan Subhashini (Shuba) Chandran Shabnam Akhter Tom Adams Katie Reberg Alison Tan Emilie Terashi Boyer Ian Osuka Vikas S R #indonesia #socialimpact #impactmeasurement

Children are the future – they are tomorrow's workforce, consumers, advocates, and leaders. Yet, they are so often invisible in impact investment strategies and decision-making. Our very own Lindsay Smalling teamed up with Erin Egan (UNICEF USA Impact Fund for Children) to explore where impact on children is already apparent in three major sectors: off-grid energy, agriculture, and microfinance. Find out more about how we can more intentionally bring a child lens to impact investing and impact measurement: https://lnkd.in/e8xe7PnD Thanks for the feature ImpactAlpha!

Want to know how our clients use the impact data we gather for them? We listen directly to end customers and beneficiaries to understand exactly what kind of impact an intervention is having on their lives. Our process involves 15-minute phone interviews conducted by our network of 1,400+ research assistants who speak 125+ different languages. We uncover: - Whether an intervention is actually being used, and why or why not - Who is using it and what their lives look like - How satisfied they are with the product/service We then analyze and benchmark the data and walk the organisation and/or funder through the results. We provide the data in a clear and concise format, validating areas of strength and identifying practical next steps for further improvement. Swipe to see some of the most common ways our data is used, such as accessing or allocating funding, product development, customer service training, and more. #impactmeasurement #impactinvesting #impactdata

🌍 How can listening to hundreds of smallholder farmers shape the future of agriculture? Our recent customer insights study with Fundación Alpina involved speaking directly to 200+ farmers across 5 countries in Latin America, revealing key insights about the impact of agricultural inputs and services on farmers' lives as part of our Farmer Thriving Index. Key findings include: Income levels: The study confirmed that the foundation mainly works with the hardest-to-reach communities, with income levels significantly below Colombia’s average, even for the lowest income levels. Nearly four in five farmers report an increase in their earnings due to Fundación Alpina, with more female farmers reporting increased earnings. Impact performance: Farmers who received agroecological training reported increased productivity and better resilience to climate shocks, with women benefiting even more than men. Conditions and needs: The smallholder farmers working with the foundation are better off in terms of food security but still need improvements in farming outlook and financial and agroecological resilience. This information helps the Foundation target its efforts more effectively. Interested in how data-driven insights can inform agricultural interventions?
