🏡✨ Discover The Maryland: An Aeon Featured Property! ✨🏡 Did you know The Maryland is one of the longest-standing buildings in the Loring Park neighborhood? Originally opened as the Hotel Maryland, it was a hotspot for local and visiting celebrities in the early 20th century. It remained a hotel until the early 1970s, and received a major renovation in 1982. Aeon purchased The Maryland Apartments in 2011, preserving this historic building and providing much-needed housing in downtown Minneapolis. Aeon gave it new life by adding 15 new studios in 2015. The Maryland offers 94 apartment homes, including 15 studios, 75 one-bedroom units, and four two-bedroom units. The one and two-bedroom apartments are income-based, making this a great option for affordable living in the heart of the city. Between 2014 and 2018, Minnesota lost a staggering 32,000 NOAH units, while only 5,339 new affordable units were built. This means a net loss of 26,661 affordable homes. Let's work together to close this gap and bring affordable housing back to our community!

At Aeon, we know that doing the same old thing won’t get us new results. We’re committed to learning and innovating – and we are leveraging our connections with educational partners, such as the Harvard Real Estate Advisory Board (HREAB), to do so. Partnerships like these bring new insights and support of our housing development efforts. This year, the Harvard School of Design launched its first-ever master’s in Real Estate program. The Practicum element of this program partners master’s students with real estate companies across the country to bring learning from the classroom into the real world. Aeon is proud to be one of the partner organizations in the first year of this program’s existence. This summer, Aeon is hosting practicum student Etta Madete. "It is an honor to be selected to work with Aeon for Harvard's' practicum fellowship. I will be working with the housing development department and supporting the teams' efforts in development proposals, funding applications and sustainability strategies. Alongside this I will also spend time with the team at all operational levels as well as interact with the company's projects to learn from and understand first-hand what it takes to truly deliver and manage affordable housing not only at scale, but with Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) principles in mind." Aeon’s President and CEO, Dr. Eric Anthony Johnson, is himself an alumnus of HREAB and knows that programs like these help us bring new, innovative ideas beyond the classroom. O'Shia was recently the recipient of a nice gesture from an HP Resident with this Certificate of Appreciation. This is a true testament to how O’Shia relates to the residents there. "O’Shia truly has a heart for service and for making HP a great place to live and work! She’s not deterred by the challenges, in fact, she thrives on them. Overall, O’Shia just “gets it”. She has the ability to hear an idea, see the big picture and turn the idea into reality." Jim Dudley - Portfolio Director

Aeon was founded in 1986 to produce 350 affordable apartments to house Minneapolis residents who would be displaced in the process of building the Minneapolis Convention Center. Our first development, Buri Manor, provided 38 homes for low-wage workers. Driven by our vision that everyone deserves a home, Aeon’s portfolio has grown to 60 properties, that 17,500 neighbors call “home” today.
