National PSA campaigns have been working to reshape the "college-for-all" narrative and empower young people to "tear the paper ceiling." Join us at #JFFHorizons for a plenary facilitated by Nirvi Shah of The Hechinger Report and featuring our own Julie Lammers, where she and fellow panelists Lydia Logan of IBM and Byron Auguste of Opportunity@Work will discuss how they worked to shift the narrative around post-secondary career and education pathways through PSAs. https://lnkd.in/eb87BVwr

Success is not a one-way track. Whether it be studying at community college or vocational school, taking a gap year or an internship, a traditional four-year college experience right out of high school is not for everyone. Read this insightful commentary by an LA college counselor about the prevalent yet outdated vision for post-secondary education and her solutions to equip marginalized students with the confidence to combat restrictive decision-making. https://bit.ly/3W4UYV7

Recognition of the importance of early career exploration has garnered tremendous attention as policies are slowly emerging to bridge education and career readiness. But what does it take to bring that piece of legislation to classrooms as well as out-of-school programs? Attend #JFFHorizons for a panel on how we can transform policy into concrete action, where Julie Lammers, our SVP of Advocacy and Corporate Social Responsibility will be sitting down with Kathleen (Boyle) Mathers, Principal of Education Strategy Group, Katie Jenner, Secretary of Education at the Indiana Department of Education, and Luke Rhine, the Deputy Assistant Secretary at the Office of Career of the Technical and Adult Education at the U.S. Department of Education tackle this pivotal issue. https://bit.ly/45114JY

Love a good crime show? You might be interested in hearing about what these students are up to. Macomb County Medical Examiner’s office offered high schoolers hands-on experience in crime scenes to introduce them to lucrative careers in forensics and law enforcement. Let's inspire today's brilliant (criminal) minds to pursue their interests and be the lead detective of their own show. https://bit.ly/3Y3SYyQ

"There is a trend in education (and in life) where people make assumptions about children. Consider their capacity for emotion, their potential for contributions, their awareness of the world around them in ways that are different from the adult world. I encourage you to cultivate a space where every voice is heard and appreciated for its individual value." Kara May, Founding Principal and Director of Partnerships at the Art in Motion (AIM) Creative Arts School in Chicago, outlines how we, as caring adults, must emphasize equity in #education — and how we can help kids find their passion and purpose by focusing on each student holistically and leading with love. The findings of this study are very much in-line with the research we've done at American Student Assistance. (via Baseline Magazine, Bradbourne Publishing Ltd) #GenZ has a decidedly entrepreneurial spirit, with many young people in this generation wanting to forego traditional jobs and embark on their own ventures. I'm heartened to see so many programs out there encouraging entrepreneurship education. It's a big reason why we announced our strategic alliance with Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE) last year, to address the exciting (and quickly-growing) interest that young people have in pursuing entrepreneurial endeavors. What are some ways you and your org are working to give kids access to entrepreurship education?
