In collaboration with Ball Corporation and other sustainability leaders, the U.S. Aerosol Recycling Initiative’s white paper has officially been released, and we're excited to share some of the highlights: Over half of consumers are unsure if aerosols can be recycled or believe they are non-recyclable. However, most aerosol cans have minimal leftover product, making them suitable for recycling. Recycling one aerosol product can reduce greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to driving 0.5 miles or charging 13 smartphones. A 50% recycling rate would save energy comparable to the use of nearly 48,000 homes annually. These are just a few reasons it’s crucial we improve the efficiency and effectiveness of recycling initiatives globally, and why we’re working toward our 2030 and 2050 sustainability goals, which you can read on our website. We’re dedicated to being both a partner and a vendor of choice for sustainable aluminum packaging offerings, and with that comes an unwavering focus on operational excellence. Building on our progress with the Aluminum Stewardship Initiative (ASI), by the end of 2023, 100% of our rolling mill suppliers were ASI members! What does this mean? From mining and re-melting, to casting, rolling, can manufacturing and filling, we are committed to upholding the highest environmental, social and ethical standards during every step of the product manufacturing process. But, there’s still work left to be done, and we’re excited to continue making progress against ASI’s sourcing standards. We’re honored to be included in Ceres’ list of exemplary Climate Transition Action Plans. One of our 2030 goals in our plan is to align the packaging industry to achieve a 90% global recycling rate for aluminum beverage cans, bottles and cups, which we can only achieve by working with government, companies, and individuals to increase recycling rates and sustainable behaviors. Vitas Carosella at Forbes perfectly highlighted our collaboration with Arsenal F.C and Planet League for the Green Gooners Cup—the biggest ever club fan engagement campaign in professional soccer. This three-week fan tournament encouraged Arsenal fans, known as Gooners, to make small, sustainable choices that positively impact our planet. Fans participated in over 40 actions, such as filling reusable water bottles, eating vegetarian meals, and opting for aluminum products, collectively scoring over 56,000 “green goals!” We are incredibly proud of everything participants achieved in such a short period and are excited to continue meeting sports fans where they are in their sustainability journeys.
