Need doesn’t stop on holidays. On Christmas Eve, a hospital system contacted us in frantic need of an interpreter for Akateko (a rare Mayan language spoken in Guatemala). They were in a bind because their current vendor for interpreting services didn’t support that language, and they needed an Akateko interpreter for an appointment the next day. Our interpreter recruiters worked hard to find, vet, and credential a professional Akateko interpreter (with healthcare experience) within 24 hours. The hospital system, on Christmas Day, could confidently deliver treatment to their patient. If you’re in need of a language your current vendor doesn’t support, reach out: https://lnkd.in/gTbqTYdn We always want to help. #remoteinterpreting #healthcare #medicalinterpreting

Bilingual pharmacists can improve patient counseling and medication adherence by communicating directly in the patient’s preferred language. However, not all bilingual pharmacists have the necessary fluency and medical terminology proficiency in language to ensure accurate communication. To mitigate risks and enhance patient safety, pharmacies should assess and validate their bilingual pharmacists’ language skills using reliable third-party assessments. Because your dog barking in the background is only fun when everyone gets to see the dog . . . . 🐶 Here are some tips for interpreters on how to reduce background noise during a remote session: - Invest in a quality headset with a noise-canceling feature. (You still have to escort the dog out of the room with these, though) - Inspect your headphones once a quarter by placing a test call to a friend - Have a dedicated, private space to take calls - Invest in soundproof curtains if you live on a busy street. (Yes, these do exist!) - Mute nearby devices, like cellphones - Turn off any music, TV, or podcasts before you accept a call #interpretingservices #remoteinterpreting

🌟 Ensuring language access in healthcare is vital for improving health outcomes and achieving equity. 🌟 Patients who speak a language other than English face lower access to preventive care and poorer health outcomes. By understanding patient language preferences, implementing a language access plan, using professional interpreters, and translating materials, healthcare organizations can take positive steps toward bridging these gaps. Let’s prioritize language access so everyone receives the care they deserve. Kristin shares more: https://lnkd.in/e2Ed7Brm #healthequity #languageaccess #healthcare
