June is National Cancer Survivors Month! A time to honor the strength, courage, and resilience of the millions of cancer survivors in our communities. Let's celebrate their journeys and support those still fighting. Did you know? • There are over 17 million cancer survivors in the United States today. • The 5-year survival rate for all cancers combined has increased from 49% in the mid-1970s to 68% for patients diagnosed between 2008 and 2014. • Advances in early detection, treatment, and supportive care have significantly improved outcomes for many types of cancer. Your story matters. Your strength inspires. Together, we can continue to fight for more survivors and a world without cancer. 💪❤️ Learn more about survivorship and resources at the American Cancer Society: www.cancer.org #NationalCancerSurvivorsMonth #CancerSurvivor #Hope #Strength #Resilience #FightCancer #ColonCancerStars #colonstars

Supporting Colorectal Cancer Patients and their Caregivers in Washington State
About us
At Colon Cancer Stars, our mission is urgent: to save lives through comprehensive education on the critical importance of colorectal cancer screening. As the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the United States, colorectal cancer demands immediate and focused attention. Our vision propels us to provide exceptional, quality information to every individual we reach and significantly impact their lives. Please check out our Events page on our website to learn more about the in-person and Zoom support groups. Our Goals • Increase people’s awareness about the benefits of being screened for colorectal cancer. • Provide support to families in the earliest phases of a loved one’s treatment. • Broaden the prevention, screening, and treatment resources available to underserved populations. • Increase colorectal cancer screening rates. • Assist patients in navigating the medical system to ensure they receive the best possible standard of care. • Foster and promote collaborative relationships between healthcare providers and patients to increase colorectal screening. Colon Cancer Stars was incorporated as a Washington nonprofit corporation on May 20, 2008, to continue the work started by the Colorectal Cancer Task Force (the “Task Force”), a committee comprised of over 13 public agencies, individuals, and nonprofit organizations, including the Washington State Department of Health and the City of Seattle and King County Departments of Health. The Task Force, formed in 2001, is a committee of the Washington Comprehensive Cancer Control Partnership, a public–private partnership working to reduce cancer incidence and mortality. The Task Force was charged with reducing mortality from colorectal cancer in Washington by increasing colorectal cancer screening and by increasing the capacity of the health care system to perform high-quality colorectal cancer screening. Colon Cancer Stars is a member of the Washington Comprehensive Cancer Control Partnership.

Join us as we call upon Congress to prioritize early-onset colorectal cancer research within the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Program (CDMRP) Although colorectal cancer is still more common in older adults, younger individuals now represent a significant percentage of new colorectal cancer cases. Studies have shown that around 10% to 15% of colorectal cancer cases occur in individuals under the age of 50. Colorectal cancer in younger individuals tends to be diagnosed at more advanced stages compared to older adults. This is partly because symptoms of colorectal cancer may be overlooked or attributed to other causes in younger individuals, leading to delays in diagnosis. By establishing a dedicated research initiative and ensuring it receives adequate funding, we can pave the way for innovative research that holds the potential to transform lives. Investing in research today is not just an expenditure but an investment in a brighter, healthier future—one where the burden of colorectal cancer is diminished, and patients and their families experience improved outcomes and greater hope. We stand with Simone Ledward-Boseman and the urgent call to make strides toward a world where colorectal cancer is no longer a threat to our loved ones. #coloncancerstars #colorectalcancerawarness #colorectalcancer #earlyonset
