"My children and I were happy to be a part of this event." Monica Lopez, Program Coordinator at Copa's Murray, Utah integrated healthcare clinic brought her family and was joined by Case Manager Paola Salmon at Utah’s largest Chalk Art Festival. Copa Health CEO Shar Najafi-Piper, Ph.D. and Jean Kalbacher, CEO of United Healthcare Community Plan of Arizona were co-presenters at last week’s 25th Annual Summer Institute hosted by ASU, School of Social Work. The name of their presentation was “Innovating Residential Integrated Care for IDD Adolescents,” and featured the opening of a youth residential treatment facility operated by Copa Health. Opening in 2024, the 24-bed facility is designed to fill a gap in care for complex youth who require integrated care in a residential facility. UHC provided substantial support for the project, targeted at reducing higher-cost hospital stays and homelessness and providing a safe therapeutic environment for these youth in their home state and close to family and support systems. Support was also provided by Mercy Care and AZ DES, Division of Developmental Disabilities. The well-attended Summer Institute is one of the largest social work conferences in the state and features recognized experts, professionals, and leaders in the field. This year’s conference focused on equity and innovation in practice settings, featuring evidence-based presentations that highlighted creative and innovative approaches to delivering effective care to diverse and under-represented community members. Pictured are Dr. Shar Najafi-Piper, Jean Kalbacher, Copa Chief of Staff Stacy Garner, Copa Board Member Dr. Don Fowls and Joel Conger of Connections AZ.

Amanda is a registered nurse at Copa Health's Youth Residential Facility in Magna, Utah, helping those who are experiencing behavioral health challenges including neglect, abuse, and substance use disorder. Many of the youth who come to Copa for help didn't grow up in a stable home environment. The early childhood trauma many of them have experienced has led to destructive behaviors in their teenage years. But, at Copa Health, we believe we can help them begin the process of building a solid foundation that includes life skills. During their stay with us, they will take part in individual and group therapy, learn psychosocial skills, express themselves in art therapy, take part in fitness & wellness programming, study with on-site school aides, and receive medication management. If you or someone you know has a child who needs help, please don't hesitate to reach out to us at Copa Health. We have a team of navigators who are ready to help guide you through the process. #copastrong #morethanmentalhealth #mentalhealthmatters #youmatter #copacommunity #copacares
