This summer, two of our interior designers joined a spectacular project: transforming Pillsbury Castle in Minneapolis, Minnesota, into a fairy-tale dream home.   As part of this collaborative project, design leader Christine Happel and designer Rhonda Laurie Smith from Edina, Minnesota, took on the task of reimagining the suite used by the original lady of the house as an updated primary bedroom. Their vision was to honor the storied history of the castle while bringing new life to a luxurious space fit for modern royalty to unwind.   Flip through these photos for a glimpse of this spectacular project—from the original space to Christine and Rhonda’s 3D room plans to the beautiful finished room.   https://lnkd.in/gygE7RUs Photo Credit Spacecrafting Photography

This May, our chairman and CEO, Farooq Kathwari, was invited to give the commencement speech at Western Connecticut State University. To an audience of students graduating in a remarkable but challenging world, he shared his own story of tenacity and how fulfilling promises, solving problems in creative ways, and accepting even small opportunities to prove yourself can pave the way for a lifetime of success.   From everyone at Ethan Allen, congratulations to the class of 2024!

This spring, our Design Center in Hartsdale, New York, hosted a spectacular event for Operation Prom. In addition to housing a walk-through display of "Prom: the Exhibition," which featured fab fashions from proms throughout history, the team collected new and gently used prom attire to make sure that every teen in the community could have the prom of their dreams.

Our Silao upholstery manufacturing operations recently commemorated their 1.5 millionth piece of furniture, and our chairman and CEO, Farooq Kathwari, joined them for the ceremony. Keeping up a 20+ year tradition, the group presented Mr. Kathwari with a gorgeous book about Mexico, signed by every associate. Congratulations to the team—and here's to millions more beautiful pieces of upholstery to come.

The key to building a great interior design portfolio, according to Spirit Award winner Jennifer Mattis?    Build a broad client base.    "I’ve had the opportunity to work with clients who prefer different styles, everything from modern, to traditional, coastal, and transitional," she notes. "I really love my work!"    Jennifer's portfolio-building advice to designers just starting out—or to experienced designers who want to do a better job of showcasing their work—is to find something to photograph and share in every project.    "Even if the client doesn't ask you to do an entire room, you’d be surprised how good a close-up shot of just a chair, end table, and lamp your client bought can look! Just shoot it from your cell phone."    Over time, she says to practice learning how best to photograph a room, and to add those images to your Instagram.      "My clients take it as a high compliment when I ask to take photos of the work we have just done—they love to participate. I think it gives them confidence in their choices when I say that their space is what I call 'magazine-photo worthy.'"

Nothing epitomizes our commitment to sustainable manufacturing like the Quincy bed, one of our most beloved pieces of furniture. It all begins in Beecher Falls, Vermont, with logs that we source from responsibly managed Appalachian forests, and keep wet with low-flow sprinklers to conserve water. Logs are milled, then the lumber is dried in kilns heated with recycled wood chips and sawdust—all in a facility that uses energy-efficient lighting. Once it’s ready, the lumber takes a short trip to Orleans, Vermont, a factory that hasn’t burned #4 fuel oil in more than a decade. After the furniture is fashioned, its finish is applied using low-HAP, low-VOC compounds for a healthier home. Happy Earth Day from Ethan Allen. 🌳🌎💚

Could you tell these images were 3D renders when you looked at them? Probably not! That’s how good Traci Duva is at making them, and how she earned her Spirit Award.     When a client from Chicago contacted her via email about a condo they’d purchased on Amelia Island, Traci found the architectural plans online and drafted a 3D rendering almost immediately.     She knew her client would spend a lot of time on their patio, so she set up living and dining areas beneath the room and chaises near the railing where they could enjoy full sun. A lowcountry coastal palette—blues, whites, and mossy greens—tied the patio to the home’s interior.      In her 3D plans, Traci decorates every shelf, adds realistic backgrounds, and even incorporates the client’s rugs and artwork. “Clients think it's cool,” she says, “how real the 3D plan looks.”
