The Golden Triangle Business Improvement District, DowntownDC BID, DC Office of Planning, National Park Service, American Society of Landscape Architects, DC Department of Parks and Recreation, and District Department of Transportation (DDOT) are thrilled to announce a Request for Proposals (RFP) for a Farragut and McPherson Squares design charrette. Farragut Square, a key landmark in the Golden Triangle, plays a vital role in this initiative to not only preserve its rich historical heritage, but also to transform the area into truly connected destinations in Downtown. We invite landscape architecture firms to express their interest in participating in this transformative project in the heart of Downtown Washington, DC. Together, we are embarking on a visionary journey to revitalize the "Historic Green Triangle," located north of the White House, as outlined in the Downtown Action Plan D.C.'s Downtown Action Plan (reimaginedowntowndc.com). The charrette will be held in Washington, DC, in August and September 2024, with 3-4 firms selected to participate. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the vibrant transformation of a historic urban space. Congratulations to our 2024 GLDN+ Streets winners - the Blake Building and the Bender Building! Every year, we have a blast coming up with different themes and colorful designs for our tree boxes as part of the Golden Triangle Business Improvement District's annual landscaping design competition - #GoldenStreets. The competition serves a dual purpose of not only beautifying our neighborhood, but also providing pollinators like bees, butterflies, and birds with essential food and habitats so they can thrive in an increasingly urban environment.

Tuesday's weather is looking just right for some table tennis and live tunes! Join us for Farragut Field Days on Tuesday, July 2 from 12:00 - 1:30pm in Farragut Square. Volo Sports will be holding a Table Tennis tournament (sign up now https://lnkd.in/e_-kP9uf or on-site), and we'll have various lawn games and live music from Veronneau. Bring your friends and coworkers for a lunchtime break filled with laughter, camaraderie, and friendly competition. 🌺 Happy Pollinator Week! 🐝 Did you know our latest project involves pollinator gardens in a BIG way?? Our new 20th Street Pollinator Corridor is a thriving habitat that provides essential food and shelter for bees, butterflies, and birds right in the heart of the city. Featuring 23 species of pollinator plants and 3,000 square feet of new habitats, these gardens are part of a larger initiative to create more green spaces that support local ecosystems and combat the challenges of urbanization. The Golden Triangle continues its dedication to fostering urban environments that support biodiversity and sustainability in many ways. Our green infrastructure includes: an annual landscaping design competition, Golden Streets, that encourages buildings to create lush tree boxes with native pollinator plants; rain gardens that help manage stormwater runoff and improve water quality; parks that are Certified Wildlife Habitats; and sustainable parklets filled with pollinator-friendly plants.
