If you've ever explored Golioth's platform or documentation, you've undoubtedly come across CoAP - the Constrained Application Protocol. While not as famous as HTTP, CoAP has earned its stripes in the internet of things (IoT) realm thanks to its ability to function in highly restricted environments. Daniel Mangum talks about why Golioth uses CoAP: https://glth.io/3QcdlW1 #IoT #tech #IoTsecurity #technews #cloud #software #hardware #firmware #data #Golioth #5G #4G #Cellular #internet #technology #Ethernet #embedded #fleet

Here at Golioth, we believe that the lowest friction way of a connecting a device to the internet is by connecting Espressif Systems ESP32 devices to the Golioth Cloud with the Golioth Firmware SDK. Sometimes we run into platforms that aren’t yet supported in Golioth, or have other requirements that means they would need to communicate directly to our CoAP endpoints. So let's take a look at Golioth’s LightDB Stream and LightDB State using only the ESP-IDF, not the Golioth Firmware SDK. There has been a lot of hype about new AI devices recently, but are they really doing more than just making API calls to cloud services? At Golioth, we specialize in connecting microcontrollers to the internet, so we thought we'd see how hard it was to build an approximation of these devices using significantly less expensive hardware. Join Dan and Jonathan to hear about it went, and see a demo of the device live!

Storing and retrieving data from the cloud is the foundational concept of the Internet of Things. When two machines talk to one another they need to settle on a data format. Here at #Golioth that means your microcontroller of choice is going to be sending and receiving JSON. The pinctrl (Pin Control) system is a standardized way of assigning peripheral functions to pins. The Zephyr Project's Pin Control allows you to define which pins will be used for special functions (SPI/i2c/UART) and how those pins will be configured (pull up/down resistors, slew rate). Have you ever heard about "Device Lakes"? Founder & CEO Jonathan Beri sat down on the #IoTShow back in February to talk about Device Lake which fuels Digital Twins, AI, and more, and about how Golioth’s IoT middleware helps streamline connectivity to the Cloud. Device Lakes are about opportunity data harvested at the edge, on premises by IoT devices. Proper IoT device management is essential for the success of Device Lakes. The APIs in the Golioth Firmware SDK make it really easy for you to select credentials using tags. Nordic Semiconductor's nRF9160 cellular modem includes a great peripheral called the Key Management Unit (KMU). This secure key storage mechanism lets you write keys to it which cannot be read back. However, they can still be used for DTLS authentication.
