Making Homes Come True - creating & preserving quality, affordable housing communities that foster resident success
About us
Homes for America (HFA) is a non-profit organization dedicated to creating and preserving quality, affordable housing communities that foster resident success and well-being. Since its founding in 1994, HFA has been a pivotal force in the Mid-Atlantic region, focusing primarily on Maryland and expanding efforts in Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Delaware. With a mission to provide stable, service-enriched housing, HFA connects residents with essential services and opportunities, ensuring they live with dignity and respect. Our approach is rooted in a holistic understanding of housing as more than just a physical space. At HFA, we believe a home should support health, education, and economic stability. This philosophy drives us to offer a range of resident services, including health and wellness programs, financial assistance, educational opportunities, and community connectivity initiatives. Our Service-Enhanced Housing model ensures that residents are active participants in shaping the programs and services available in their communities. HFA’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion is reflected in all aspects of our work. We strive to create inclusive communities where every resident feels safe, respected, and supported. Our development projects prioritize sustainability and environmental stewardship, aligning with our goals to reduce our ecological footprint and build climate-resilient communities. By leveraging partnerships with public, private, and community-based agencies, we provide comprehensive support that enhances residents' quality of life. As we continue to grow and evolve, HFA remains focused on its core values: resident-centered decision-making, high-quality services, dismantling structural racism in housing, and fiscal responsibility. Our dedication to these principles ensures that we not only meet the housing needs of today but also pave the way for a brighter, more equitable future for all our residents.

Homes for America is excited to announce a major milestone for the Elizabeth Cornish Landing (ECL) community in Bridgeville, DE. We've been awarded 9% competitive tax credits for the proposed rehabilitation of the community, marking our first project with the Delaware State Housing Authority. In total, the project will rehabilitate all 62 units, providing a fresh start for the residents and the community. Our plan includes a complete overhaul of the community spaces, introducing new amenities such as charging stations, a fitness center, a community garden, and potentially a dog park. This accomplishment wouldn't have been possible without the incredible contributions of our team and partners. Special thanks to Architectural Alliance, Inc., our architect based in Philadelphia, and Harkins Builders, Inc., our dedicated contractor. #DelawareDay #AffordableHousing #CommunityRehabilitation

In honor of #PrideMonth, we want to highlight what officials in the #FairAndAfforableHousing community are saying. From Acting Secretary Adrianne Todman Statement in commemoration of LGBTQIA+ Pride Month: "This Pride Month, I reaffirm HUD’s commitment to ensuring LGBTQIA+ people have access to fair and safe housing, as well as our ongoing efforts to prevent and address homelessness, especially among LGBTQIA+ youth who are particularly vulnerable. Our nation is at its best when everyone who calls this country home feels safe, protected, and free to live out their dreams.”
