Every child deserves a bed to sleep in, right? Bedlessness might not be a real word, but it’s a real world problem. Sadly, there are currently 25 west Oahu keiki on the wait list for a bed. 🥺 In fact, it’s estimated that 4 percent of children across the country do not have their own bed to rest in; these children may be sharing beds with other members of their household, sleeping on a couch or even on the floor. Today our Layton Construction’s Oahu team partnered with Sleep in Heavenly Peace Hawaii and a few of our good friends at Rosendin and Bacon Universal! Together as sponsors of today’s event, we handcrafted 13 beds for local keiki! It was a very gratifying process watching a 2x4 cut, drilled out, sanded, assembled, branded and stained! Making beds…making a difference. How can you help? Donate to the cause! https://lnkd.in/gqP7XvKa Special shout out to: 📣 George Denise and his team at Slleep in Heavenly Peace Hawaii for all they do. We appreciate the opportunity you gave our Layton team to get involved! 📣 Vip Sanitation for providing us with free facilities for the day! 🚽 Couldn’t have done it without you! 😅 📣 Bacon Universal for providing us with a generator for the day! You rock! 📣 And last, but not least, our amazing Layton Oahu team! You are such kind hearted, hard workers and I am so happy to know you all! Advancing #HealthEquity starts by addressing social determinants of health at the local level. That's why today, we announced an investment of nearly $35 million towards the development of affordable housing in Hawaii. 👇 🏘️ Each affordable housing community will offer residents supportive social and educational programs tailored to address specific needs of both communities. For example, one of the units located in Lahaina, Maui will bring much needed affordable housing options, along with accessible health and educational resources, to families in an area heavily impacted by the 2023 Maui fires. 📚 And in Kapolei, Oahu, residents of the affordable housing units will have access to no-cost education, health and wellness services – including an on-site preschool, a unique feature for this property to help residents and their families thrive. CVS Health is committed to providing historically underserved communities with access to meaningful resources like affordable housing and high-quality health care. In partnership with Mālama Learning Center and Ulu Aʻe Learning Center, Hunt Companies Hawaiʻi held our first Kalaeloa Town Tree Planting Workshop this past Saturday with over 100 in attendance. The workshop provided an educational experience for our multigenerational families in West Oʻahu, focusing on Native Hawaiian trees and plants. Trees for Honolulu’s Future shared a fun activity for our keiki and DreamHouse Charter School hosted a plant mākeke (market). From demonstrations on how to make chili pepper water to workshops on how to plant niu leka (dwarf coconut) and ʻulu trees, it was a day filled with learning and fun! 🌶️   Stay tuned for more exciting updates and events like this! #community #learning #sustainability #malamaaina Pictured from left to right: Kiran Polk from Kapolei Chamber of Commerce, Pauline Sato from Mālama Learning Center, Kathleen Iriarte from Hunt, Mikiala Lidstone from Ulu Aʻe Learning Center
