A network of Latino professionals in government fostering growth and connections in the City of Long Beach.
About us
The Latino Employees Organization (LEO) was founded in 2015 by a passionate and committed group of City of Long Beach Employees who generously volunteered their time to spearhead the organization. Today, LEO comprises a diverse and dedicated group that continues leading the organization’s mission forward with their leadership and active participation. LEO is an inclusive and vibrant community with a President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary, and 13 board members assigned to various committees. With a commitment to fostering growth and connections, LEO holds monthly meetings where members engage in discussions about important topics such as professional development, health, wellness, mentorship, arts, and culture. In addition to these enriching meetings, LEO organizes volunteer opportunities and social events that aim to facilitate meaningful connections among peers. By participating in these activities, City employees can establish new relationships and broaden their networks. LEO values inclusivity and warmly welcomes all to join, regardless of their identity or background. One of LEO's notable achievements is its Annual Scholarship Program, which serves as a flagship initiative. Every year, LEO actively fundraises to provide scholarships to Long Beach students pursuing post-secondary and non-traditional education. Over the years, this program has successfully awarded 10 scholarships to deserving individuals, including graduating Long Beach Unified School District high school seniors, Long Beach Community College students, and California State University, Long Beach students.

On Thursday, May 30th, the City Manager’s Office hosted an all-day retreat for management staff. The event was held at the Long Beach Convention Center; this year’s theme was "Reconnect to Joy!" LEO was honored to participate in the Innovative Leadership Expo, which featured displays in six categories: Data & Technology, Hiring & Recruitment, Engaging Communications, Employee Wellness & Connectedness, Personnel & Performance Management, and Employee Affinity Resource Groups. The expo provided an excellent networking opportunity for teams citywide to showcase their tools and best practices that enhance staff performance and operations. A special thank you to the City of Long Beach and their Management Retreat Planning Committee for organizing such a successful event and inviting Employee Affinity Groups to participate. Your efforts were greatly appreciated! #longbeach #latinoemployees #lbc #cityoflongbeach
