When women and girls assert themselves, they often get a negative reaction. Women are criticized for being aggressive, and girls are told not to be bossy. This happens because of age-old stereotypes that lead us to expect women and girls to be nice and friendly. When they assert themselves, they go against that expectation—and as a result, we tend to like them less. When you hear someone criticize a woman or a girl for asserting herself, ask them about it: “That’s interesting. Would you have that reaction if a man/boy did the same thing?” Learn how you can help girls reject limiting stereotypes and embrace their leadership superpowers at LeanInGirls.Org. ✍️ Tweet by chloe.angyal.writes

Sweden launched a groundbreaking new law that allows grandparents to step in and get paid parental leave while taking care of their grandchildren for up to three months of a child’s first year. Under the law, parents can transfer some of their generous parental leave allowance to the child’s grandparents. A parent couple can transfer a maximum of 45 days to others while a single parent can transfer 90 days, according to the Social Insurance Agency, a government agency that administers the social insurance system.

#TakeOnBiasThursday message from Sheryl Sandberg: We tend to underestimate women's performance and overestimate men's. As a result, women have to accomplish more to prove they’re as competent as men. Performance bias is to blame for this phenomenon. Performance bias often leads to missed opportunities and lower performance ratings for women—both can significantly impact career progression. For Latinas, bringing their whole selves to work doesn’t always feel like an option. Many shared with us that speaking with an accent or wearing colorful clothing resulted in a microaggression, such as a colleague implying they were unprofessional or mistaking them for someone more junior. These kinds of microaggressions further disadvantage Latinas in the workplace. If you’re a senior leader who has the power to change the company culture for Latinas, check out Allyship at Work — a training program that empowers all employees to take meaningful action and show up as allies for coworkers with less privilege: https://lnkd.in/gBkKzrnr
