"All you can eat." Those four words get customers in the doors of restaurants, but it can also hurt their bottom line. So, restaurants have to get creative to please customers while also saving money. Laura Marx, climate solutions scientist at TNC in Massachusetts, recently shared insights with NPR's Marketplace by APM on the Massachusetts Conservation Land Tax Credit. This program provides landowners with up to $75,000 to preserve their land. However, there is a waiting list, and when funds run out, landowners must wait for the next year. To achieve Massachusetts’ climate goals, the state must double its pace of forest protection. Wildland firefighting is a male-dominated career. The U.S. Forest Service estimates that up to 87% of its wildland firefighters are men. But in the mountains of western Colorado, an all-women firefighting group is defying the statistics The women get mentorship, help with their resumes and advice about seasonal jobs. When the 10-month program is over, they will be certified to fight wildfires for federal agencies.
