New blog post by Dr. Desi Richter, Moxie's Research Director. From Freakout to Trusted Feedback Companion: One Academic’s Cautious Journey Toward AI Adoption Can AI Really Benefit Both My Students and Me? "In order to embrace AI for education use, I needed to trust that at least some version of it could benefit both my students and me. This idea hearkens back to the student-teacher relationship. At the end of the day, I am a writing pedagogue. I hail from the process-based writing camp and have helped numerous students overcome the roadblocks they need to get out of their heads and onto the page. Name a writing issue, and I have seen it. I know that students need feedback that is differentiated to their needs. And I also know that those students need a lot of care." 🔗 https://lnkd.in/ev5DKceu #genAI #AIforEducation #Moxie #AcademicInsightLab #HigherEd #AcademicChatter

Moxie (Academic Insight Lab) reposted this
At this week’s 💻 #virtual Moxie (Academic Insight Lab) #Meetup, we kicked off our practice with a 🎵concert theme icebreaker, proving that music unites us all, whether we’re fans of the Stones, Nicki Minaj, Willie Nelson, Mariah Carey, or Dolly Parton. When we openly share a little about ourselves, it builds trust that facilitates the dialogue in our community learning session. 🔢 🔑 Key takeaways from Kimberly Pace Becker, Ph.D. “show and tell”: 1️⃣ Explored how to navigate Moxie's new website's homepage and the resources available 2️⃣ Revisited the AI literacy framework, central to Moxie’s ethos, that builds on Selber’s 2004 framework for digital literacies. The rhetorical component of the three elements framework was demonstrated with successive prompts, probing, and unpacking to get more clarity on the topic. 3️⃣ Demonstrated how to seamlessly toggle between the Premium tools (ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, and Perplexity) in the Moxie subscription 4️⃣ Shared tips on AI tools like Perplexity, a platform that accesses the internet, and Semantic Scholar for research. I especially enjoy the weekly live Meetups Moxie offers to subscribers. It's a #brave space where participants can ask questions and immediately apply insights to their #research and #writing. When you are just starting to learn academic writing, you don’t know what you don’t know. Kimberly covered the three aspects of research writing: depth, flow, and accuracy. Moxie covers the first two, and then she recommended tools like Grammarly and ReciteWorks, for accuracy. These meetups #empower #doctoral students and #researchers (myself included!) to navigate generative AI’s #ethical application in our work confidently. Not a member yet? I invite you to ✅ out #Wednesday's session on Moxie’s YouTube channel. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/gQB2VmZP #CommunityofPractice #AILiteracy #Doctoral Student #Researcher #ProfessionalDevelopment Jessica L. Moxie was recently featured in a press release by the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences: ‘This is Electricity’: How AI Tools are Transforming Doctoral Student Work --- Under the guidance of Dr. Jessica Parker, graduate students at MCPHS are using generative AI to improve their academic writing and research skills. When Dr. Jessica Parker asked her students if anyone was interested in working with artificial intelligence (AI) for the semester, the response was cautious yet intrigued. “I was a bit naïve about the ways we could use AI,” said Stephen Flaherty, DHA '26, MPH, one of Dr. Paker’s students. “At the same time, so many of my colleagues are using AI tools and talking about how we can use them to provide better care, so it was an opportunity.” Bringing this technology to the Doctor of Healthcare Administration (DHA) program at Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (MCPHS) was a natural next step for Parker, EdD. She has been interested in generative AI since it became available to the public because she saw the opportunities it presents across academia. “I’ve talked with many educators at different universities who compare AI to the creation of the calculator,” Dr. Parker said. “This is not the calculator. This is electricity because of the level of innovation and transformation we’re going to see across our society.” 🔗 Link to press page in bio

Moxie’s approach to AI is resonating with doctoral students and faculty at Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences 🤩
Artificial intelligence (AI) has arrived at MCPHS. This year, four students in the Doctor of Healthcare Administration (DHA) program volunteered to use AI to help them with their coursework. Adjunct faculty member Jessica L. Parker, Ed.D., guided and taught them how to responsibly use the technology. “Students were expected to use AI tools at least once per assignment to get formative feedback before they turned it in for a grade,” Dr. Parker said. “They loved it. They were more engaged with the work, had increased agency, and had more autonomy during the learning process.” The students learned how to use a variety of AI tools, from ChatGPT to custom tools Dr. Parker created specifically for academia.
